Marie Kondo has managed to package her expertise into multiple formats: books, TV shows, merchandise, and a consultant certification program. Fans of her first book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, swear by her tips.

Kondo is continuing to expand her decluttering empire, and this time she’s going the educational route. After the successful launch of her Netflix series Tidying Up with Marie Kondo in 2019, the organization maven has been rolling out project after project, including a new book, another Netflix show, and now, an entire course for those who want to learn the basics of her system.

Marie Kondo introduces online course

In a time when many people are spending countless hours at home or on Zoom meetings, some have been prone to surveying and rearranging their surroundings. Now, Kondo is helping people to find joy in neatness with her new online video course, KonMari Method: Fundamentals of Tidying.

The 10-part curriculum includes lessons on how to tackle clothing, paper, and home clutter and addresses how to bring joy and gratitude into one’s space. The class features Kondo in each video and is designed to be self-paced. The price? $39.99.

Kondo explains why she’s offering the course and how it works

In an interview with Entrepreneur Magazine, Kondo said that she wanted to present a course in this format for those who are interested in learning her method with visual aids.

She stated that some preferred her books, others enjoyed discovering through the Netflix show, and this is just another way to share the KonMari Method.

“The first three lessons lay the foundation for tidying successfully – in one shot – and expand on the philosophy behind my method,” Kondo told Entrepreneur.

“In the KonMari Method, you tidy by category, not by location – the five categories are clothes, books, papers, komono (miscellaneous items) and sentimental items, and there is an episode dedicated to each one. I teach you how to tidy one category at a time and how to organize and store the belongings you choose to keep.”

Kondo added that she views tidying as a celebration and wanted to create a way for people to tidy up those items that support them in everyday life while they’re home. “It is my hope that the magic of tidying will help people to create a bright and joyful future, especially during these uncertain times.”

Kondo is developing a new Netflix show too

Back in March, Netflix and Kondo announced that they’re partnering up for a new series centered on tidying up a community. Titled “Tidy My Town,” the show will see Kondo venture to one small American town to revamp a special location of its choice.

Netflix and Kondo asked for the public’s help to nominate an area for transformation such as a library, school, mayor’s office, fire station, or recreation center.
