Marilyn Manson’s Ex-Wife Dita Von Teese Reveals ‘Infidelity and Drug Abuse’ Were Behind Their Divorce
Dita Von Teese is speaking out about the abuse allegations against her ex-husband Marilyn Manson. The burlesque performer shared a statement on her Instagram on Feb. 3 in which she said “that the details made public do not match my personal experience.”
Manson’s ex-girlfriend, actor Evan Rachel Wood, accused the controversial rock star of abuse in a Feb. 1 Instagram post, calling him “dangerous” and saying that she was “brainwashed and manipulated into submission” over the course of their relationship. Manson has denied the allegations.

Von Teese and Manson (whose real name is Brian Warner) were in a relationship for seven years. The pair married in December 2005. But just a year later, Von Teese left him.
In her social media post, Von Teese said that Manson did not abuse her when they were together.
“I have been processing the news that broke Monday regarding Marilyn Manson,” she wrote. “To those who have expressed your concerns of my well-being, I appreciate your kindness. Please know that the details made public do not match my personal experience during our seven together as a couple. Had they, I would not have married him in December 2005.”
Von Teese went on to write that “abuse of any kind has no place in any relationship.”
“I urge those of you who have incurred abuse to take steps to heal and the strength to fully realize yourself,” she added. “This is my sole statement on this matter.”

In her statement, Von Teese clarified the circumstances of her divorce from the controversial rock star.
“I left … due to infidelity and drug abuse,” she wrote.
In a 2007 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Von Teese talked about why her marriage broke down, hinting that cheating might have been to blame.
“We were completely monogamous,” she said. “[W]e really believed in commitment and tradition and our vows. But sometimes people change their ideas, I suppose….”
Von Teese said Manson had been “the man of my dreams” but that things went sour “overnight.”
“Let’s just say that it must have been something pretty bad for me to move out of the house after six years together and to pack up my stuff on Christmas Eve,” she said.
The performer known for her vintage glam style said she found herself in a situation that many other women have encountered, where you have “to make a choice as to whether you’re going to respect yourself and say, ‘I’m not going to accept this. This is not okay.’”
Shortly after Von Teese and Manson split, he and Wood went public as a couple. When asked if her husband’s relationship with the future Westworld star — who was then 19 years old — was behind the breakup, she replied, “no comment.”

In a candid 2007 interview with Spin, Manson spoke about his breakup with Von Teese, saying that time spent apart because of her career took a toll on the relationship. He also said she was no longer willing to tolerate certain aspects of his behavior after they wed.
“[P]eople would say that drugs and alcohol wrecked my marriage,” he said. “But buyer beware. She said she had tolerated the lifestyle because she hoped I would change and threatened to leave if I didn’t. I was sleeping on the couch in my own home. I was no longer supposed to be a rock star. I was someone who had to be apologized for. I wasn’t prepared to be alone.”
