Mark Hamill Admits This ‘Star Wars’ Moment Makes Him ‘Cringe’
Mark Hamill has had countless unforgettable moments in Star Wars. Becoming one of the most iconic parts of one of the top franchises in Hollywood history has to leave Hamill feeling proud.
But there’s one moment from the series in particular that actually makes Hamill cringe to look back on. So which one is it?
Mark Hamill’s most famous role is Luke Skywalker
Few actors are as closely associated with Star Wars as Hamill. He portrayed Luke Skywalker, the main character of the original trilogy. The first three Star Wars films follow Luke as he attempts to become a Jedi Knight while saving the galaxy. Along the way he’s able to turn his father, the evil Darth Vader, back to the light side of the Force. He helps the Rebellion defeat the Empire, restoring balance to the galaxy.
Hamill reprised his role of Luke more than thirty years after the conclusion of the original trilogy in Disney’s sequels. He appears for a brief cameo in The Force Awakens before playing a much larger role in The Last Jedi. He serves as a mentor to Rey, helping her learn the ways of the Force. He also has to deal with his failure to train Ben Solo that led to him becoming Kylo Ren. Hamill appeared in another extended cameo as a Force ghost in The Rise of Skywalker.
Hamill last appeared in the role in the season two finale of The Mandalorian. There, using CGI, he was made to appear much younger as he portrayed a post-Return of the Jedi Luke.
Mark Hamill’s done plenty outside of ‘Star Wars’ also
Hamill may be best known for Star Wars, but it’s hardly all he’s accomplished. Hamill had a second successful career as a voiceover actor. He’s voiced countless animated characters, showing a real penchant for voiceover work. His most famous role is that of Batman’s arch-nemesis, the Joker. He first played that role in Batman: The Animated Series. Since that popular performance, he’s voiced the Clown Prince of Crime in numerous other media.
He’s also well known for his hilarious Twitter account. There, Hamill takes off the mask he’s worn as an actor and lets his fans and followers see the real him. He comments on everything from his past roles, politics, and entertainment. Hamill can be serious at times, while other times he likes to joke around. What he always manages to be is interesting.
From time to time, Hamill’s also known to provide insight into his time as an actor. He’ll let fans in on backstage stories from movies or shows he’s appeared in. It’s part of what makes following him on social media so exciting – fans never know when he’s going to let them in on what it was like to be him during some of his best performances.
There was one Star Wars moment in particular that Hamill called out on social media because it made him cringe.
The ‘Star Wars’ moment that makes Mark Hamill cringe
If you had to guess the moment that embarrasses Hamill from the Star Wars universe, your first guess may be the moment in Empire Strikes Back when he kissed his sister Leia. You’d be wrong though. It’s an entirely different moment altogether.
According to Huffington Post, Hamill posted a meme to his Twitter account that featured a picture of him looking directly into a lightsaber. Hamill said he didn’t remember the moment from the movie and that it was likely an “on-set production still.” Of course, Hamill was never REALLY in danger, as lightsabers were created via special effects, not an actual laser sword. But the meme and Hamill’s reaction were both pretty funny. It was the Star Wars version of looking into a rifle while cleaning it.
