Mark Hamill Joked About Not Knowing Ahsoka Tano; Does Luke Skywalker Know Her in ‘Star Wars’ Canon?
Between all the different parts of the Star Wars universe, it can sometimes be a bit of a task to know or remember every single character. But there are several big names that fans should know, such as Rey, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, and others. So, fans were really shocked when Mark Hamill said he didn’t know who Ahsoka Tano was. She’s grown into one of the most recognizable names in the franchise, so it was a bit of a surprise. However, he was, of course, kidding. But it begs the question: Does Luke Skywalker know about Ahsoka Tano?
Mark Hamill replied to a fan, saying he doesn’t know who Ahsoka Tano is
On July 3, a fan on Twitter asked Hamill — who’s known for many roles, but especially that of Luke Skywalker — how much he likes Ahsoka Tano. Now, Ahsoka is a major character in Anakin Skywalker’s life because she was his former Padawan before he turned to the Dark Side. Aside from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ahsoka’s gone on to become a major player in Star Wars Rebels as well as appear in a voiceover during The Rise of Skywalker.
However, interestingly, Hamill replied with, “I’m sorry, but don’t know what Ahsoka Tano is.”
Granted, many fans were shocked because of the previously mentioned importance of her character. Plus, if things had turned out differently, Ahsoka would have been like an aunt to Luke.
But, obviously, Hamill was only joking. He tweeted on July 4, “Relax everyone, of course I know Ahsoka Tano! Note to self: Binge watch #CloneWars ASAP, apologize to Ashley Eckstein next time I see her.”
Eckstein is the voice of Ahsoka, and Hamill included a picture of the two of them in his tweet for good measure too.
Luke Skywalker seemingly does know who Ahsoka is, but not much is known about their relationship or if they ever met
With that said, the question of whether Luke knew of or met Ahsoka at some point is something that has surely crossed many fans’ minds. With her important position within the Rebel Alliance as Fulcrum and, of course, her importance in Anakin’s life, it makes sense that he knew of her, at the very least. And he did.
The book The Secrets of the Jedi tells stories of the Jedi Order, along with their history. It’s canon and told from Luke Skywalker’s point of view, although it’s essentially an encyclopedia.
In it, he has an entry on Ahsoka Tano. It states that she was his father’s Padawan and shared how skilled she was. It then tells the story of how she was framed for bombing the Jedi Temple and walked away from the Jedi Order to create her own path. And, lastly, it shared how she become Fulcrum.
Again, it’s short and has no personal connection to Luke, however, how does he know this? Is it just from stories he’d heard within the Rebel Alliance or from Anakin’s Force ghost? Or did Ahsoka and Luke finally meet at some point? That hasn’t been revealed yet, but that doesn’t mean it will be a mystery forever.
There’s still so much to Ahsoka’s story that fans don’t know
Ahsoka Tano is probably the only character in all of Star Wars that has spanned all eras of canon, aside from Palpatine and Anakin/Darth Vader. She was a lead character in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, especially in the final seventh season.
The 15 years between Order 66 (the Jedi Purge) and when she shows up as Fulcrum in Star Wars Rebels is a mystery for fans. The Ahsoka novel tells her exploits the year after The Clone Wars’ finale, but then it ends right before she starts her life as a Rebel spy.
And even after Star Wars Rebels, fans don’t know what she got up to. Her voice is heard guiding Rey in The Rise of Skywalker, but Dave Filoni has also hinted that doesn’t mean she’s dead. And if she’s not dead, what has she been up to? Who has she worked with and met?
Ahsoka is a fan-favorite for a reason and keeps coming back because of that fact. She is powerful and leads a unique life. There are rumors she’ll appear in The Mandalorian Season 2, but other than that fans don’t know where she’ll pop up next. There is a lot of room to guess that she met Luke at some point, but until it’s confirmed fans can’t know for sure.
