Mark Walhberg’s Priceless Update on His Breakfast Debate and Workout With Dr. Oz
It all started with breakfast. Dr. Oz told viewers it’s ok to skip it. Wahlberg took issue with the cardiologist, saying the first meal of the day is essential for a good workout. And so, a social media scuffle ensued.
The two exercised it out and one of them has declared himself the winner.
Here’s what happened between the doctor and the actor.
Dr. Oz’s views on breakfast are not entirely accepted
Dr. Oz’s take on the first meal of the day isn’t a popular one. Instead of eating as soon as one gets up, the New Jersey resident recommends people wait more than a couple of hours before eating. Until they actually feel hunger.
The 59-year-old doctor’s guidance is influenced by his adherence to intermittent fasting, which calls for abstaining from food a variety of ways. In Oz’s case, he stops eating the night before after dinner and doesn’t start eating again until he is hungry the next morning.
Wahlberg’s social media response
Mark Wahlberg then called Dr. Oz out on social media for what he felt was inaccurate and misleading nutritional information. Especially as a medical professional, Wahlberg felt Oz needed to be more responsible with the information he dispensed. The 48-year-old actor sent Oz a message via an Instagram post, saying “@dr_oz I hope you’re ready. Eat up buddy, it’ll do you well” while surrounded by a breakfast table feast.
Appearing on Today in January, Dr. Oz was asked about the two men’s disagreement over what has been called the most important meal of the day.
“Mark has bought into the dogma of breakfast,” Oz said on the morning show. “He believes all the hype that you have to have breakfast… Another big study came out that says you’re better off if you intermittent fast. The best way, as you all know, is skipping breakfast.”
When he was asked by Today hosts if both he and Wahlberg couldn’t both be right, Oz countered, “My point to Mark: As great as you look now, for the average human being, to get there is difficult. Most of us, the smart thing to do is to skip breakfast, workout as much as you can — maybe not as hard as Mark does — and you’re going to look better because you’re going to burn fat and not the food that’s already in your stomach.”
Oz and Wahlberg decided to duke it out – with a workout
The two men decided to do a morning workout together, Oz on no breakfast, Wahlberg on a nice, big one.
Oz poked at Wahlberg on Instagram, saying, “Ready for the workout, @markwahlberg? You know I am,” with Wahlberg replying in the same post with “I’m having nice big breakfast tomorrow morning. 🥚🍳🥩🥓🥞🥞🥞🥞 I hope you’re ready to lift heavy on that empty stomach.”
The two met to have the workout. The result? Oz posted on Instagram, “I can’t feel my body.”
As for Wahlberg, Today host Harry Smith on Monday asked him how it went. The Boogie Nights actor replied, “I don’t think he knew what he was getting himself into, but he was a trooper.”
“I squashed him like a grape. That poor thing, he didn’t know what would happen.”
