‘Married at First Sight’ Season 9 Star Jamie Thompson Announces Divorce From Beth Bice

Beth and Jamie wed during Married at First Sight Season 9, which took place in Charlotte, North Carolina. The pair were one of two couples from that season who opted to stay together on Decision Day. But the marriage didn’t last, and in June 2023, they announced they were getting divorced.

According to Beth, the split has been contentious – and costly. She says she spent in the mid-five figures to disentangle herself from her ex.

“So true story, I got married to a stranger on tv and it r[eally] cost me 60k to divorce him,” she wrote in a Jan. 22 Instagram post.

The MAFS alum accused her former husband of making the divorce difficult.

“He locked me out of my finances so there was a lot of court orders that had to be filed,” she claimed in a reply to someone who commented on the post. “The courts finally demanded him and also fined him for miss use of courts.”

This isn’t the first time Beth has spoken about the cost of her divorce. In an April 2024 Instagram post, she said she left her marriage “with nothing.”

While Beth was glad to put her troubled marriage behind her, she said she didn’t single out the show or its experts for criticism.

“I chose to stay with someone that’s not the [show’s] fault,” she replied to someone who suggested that she sue Married at First Sight for matching her with Jamie.

Jamie says he’s looking forward to ‘new beginnings’

Jamie has not directly addressed Beth’s recent comments about their divorce. But in a Jan. 12 Instagram post, he said he was focused on the future.

“After a year of reflection and growth, I’m returning to share insights about authenticity, personal development, and building meaningful success,” he wrote. “Life’s greatest lessons often come from our biggest challenges … Here’s to new beginnings.”

In a now-deleted Instagram post announcing the end of his marriage, Jamie said that he wanted to save his marriage, but that “after months of deliberation” he and Beth were “unable to find common ground.”

“I had really hoped to resolve this, but it feels like we have reached the point of no return,” he wrote. “So, I made the decision to go ahead and file for divorce for the sake of my own mental health and wellbeing. It was one of the hardest things I’ve had to do in a very long time.”
