‘Married at First Sight’: Amber Bowles Tells Elizabeth Bice She Will Finally Be ‘Officially Divorced’ From Matt Gwynne Soon, Claims He’s Dating At Least Two Women

In a recent interview with her ‘Married at First Sight’ castmate, Elizabeth Bice, Amber Bowles opened up about where she and Matt Gwynne are in terms of their protracted divorce.

Amber Bowles, a teacher from Charlotte, North Carolina, quickly became a fan favorite on Lifetime’s Married at First Sight when she married former basketball player Matt Gwynne on season 9. Matt and Amber’s marriage was notoriously ill-fated, and they ultimately decided to go their separate ways.

But it turns out that Amber and Matt’s divorce process has been a lot longer than their actual marriage was. On the April 29 Lifetime special, Married at First Sight: Where Are They Now, Amber claimed that Matt was refusing to sign the divorce papers she’d repeatedly served him.

Amber’s Married at First Sight season 9 castmate, Elizabeth Bice—who is still married to her Lifetime expert-selected husband, Jamie Thompson—recently interviewed Matt’s soon-to-be-ex for her YouTube channel. The 27-year-old, who is now dating someone new, opened up about where she and Matt are in terms of their divorce.

Amber claimed that Matt dragged his feet when it came to the divorce

Elizabeth asked Amber to let viewers know where she and Matt were in their ongoing divorce saga. After waiting the amount of time required for a legal separation in North Caroline, Amber told Elizabeth that she mailed the documents to Matt in Sept. 2019, as soon as their Married at First Sight season stopped airing. In fact, she sent them along three times, but according to Amber, her ex never signed the separation papers.

Given Matt’s refusal to respond, Amber eventually chose to pursue an absolute divorce instead. All Matt had to do, she explained, was acknowledge that he received the materials. But because Matt lacks a consistent home address, according to Amber, it was difficult to track down his address at all, let alone to send him certified mail.

Ultimately, the Married at First Sight star said, it took Matt until July 27, 2020, to acknowledge that he received the paperwork, accept the divorce, and turn down the chance to contest it.

Amber’s relief was visible as she revealed, “It’s finally in the works. I’m officially going to be divorced in September.”

As for the reasons for Matt’s postponement of the inevitable, Amber told Elizabeth she still couldn’t figure it out. She knew Matt didn’t want to be married to her, so she was baffled by his lack of cooperation.

“You would think that someone who hated me so much would want to get divorced,” she mused.

She alleged that her ex was dating at least two women

Next, Amber’s Married at First Sight castmate chimed in with some tidbits about Matt’s alleged dating activities today. Elizabeth claimed that Matt had been spotted with at least two different women in recent months—and they were reportedly a little too close to home for his ex-wife.

“I want to go ahead and pull the fact up that he is dating someone in your building right now, and he’s also dating someone in your boyfriend’s building, too,” Elizabeth claimed during the interview, “because you see him with two different girls in these places…As of right now, Amber sees him at two different locations with two different girls.”

While Amber didn’t give any more information about her ex’s supposedly very active dating life, she didn’t deny Elizabeth’s claims.

The Married at First Sight stars reflected on Amber’s complicated relationship with Matt—and his alleged history of dating multiple women at one time, even while they were married and living together. Elizabeth claimed that, during filming, she actually got multiple screenshots from people she knew around Charlotte that suggested Matt was on the town with other women throughout his brief marriage to Amber.

The ‘Married at First Sight’ star also claimed that Matt’s hygiene was lacking

Amber also shared some less-than-savory details about Matt’s hygiene habits.

Elizabeth jokingly asked Amber if she’d ever “swirled” Matt’s toothbrush in the toilet like they’d talked about after everything went down between the troubled couple. But, according to Amber, there was one problem: He didn’t own a toothbrush—at least not that she ever saw.

“Y’all remember he said he didn’t brush his teeth, right?” the Married at First Sight star exclaimed. “Yeah, he didn’t have a toothbrush, so I couldn’t really swirl it in the toilet.”

Matt’s ex admitted that she was disgusted by having to kiss Matt when filming for Lifetime finally came to a close.

“At the end of the season, when I hated him, I still had to fake kiss him, knowing that he [doesn’t] brush his teeth,” Amber complained, looking more than a little grossed out.

While Matt and Amber’s love story might have been, uh, a little lackluster, it’s a relief for many Married at First Sight fans to know that it might be coming to an official end this month at long last.
