If there’s one couple from Lifetime’s Married at First Sight season 11 that most fans would expect to stay together on Decision Day, it’s most likely Bennett Kirschner and Amelia Fatsi. Bennett, a 28-year-old theatre director, and Amelia, a 27-year-old recently-graduated MD about to embark on her clinical residency, had an immediate spark that blossomed into love in just a few weeks.

But, just before Decision Day, it seemed that Amelia and Bennett hit a surprising snag. During their last dinner before the big day, Amelia broke the news that she initially signed up for Married at First Sight on a whim – and Bennett didn’t seem happy to hear it.

Amelia told Bennett she thought it would be ‘fun to be on a reality show’

Just before Decision Day, Bennett and Amelia sat down for dinner together at their shared apartment and reflected on their four months of marriage.

Bennett said it had been a “wild” few months – and that’s when Amelia dropped quite the bombshell about her initial motives for appearing on the show.

“I really didn’t even think that I was ready to be married,” Amelia admitted, “but I mostly just kind of thought it would be fun to be on a reality show.”

Bennett’s face immediately fell upon hearing his wife’s announcement, but she didn’t seem to notice. The Married at First Sight star went on to say straightforwardly that marriage wasn’t the primary “driving force” in her decision to apply for the show.

The ‘Married at First Sight’ star hinted that she could have been matched with a number of people

For Amelia, the show seemed like more of a possible adventure than anything. She didn’t believe she would be chosen at all, so she treated it as a fun, passing experiment of sorts. It was only when she did get selected that she began to think about marriage in earnest at all. Now, with Decision Day on its way, the whole experience seemed even more surreal.

Bennett watched in disbelief as his wife went on to say that she got along with most people that she met and fell in love easily, so she wasn’t too worried about who was matched with her.

“So even if I got matched with a snowman, or someone I had nothing in common with, I’d probably like them,” the Married at First Sight star said.

Bennett wondered if he could fully trust Amelia after the revelation

For Bennett, Amelia’s admission was deeply unsettling. He confessed that he wasn’t sure he could trust his wife, or the relationship they’d built, after what she revealed.

“Being married to someone I’ve only known for a couple months,” Bennett told Lifetime producers, “and then being confronted with the fact that much of the reason she applied to be on Married at First Sight was that she just wanted this new and crazy experience of being on a reality show, naturally makes me wonder a little bit.”

Bennett also wondered what would happen when the cameras turned off, and they only had each other to deal with. The Married at First Sight star worried that the whole thing could come crashing down in the end.

“Is she going to make a 180-degree turn and be a completely different person?” Bennett wondered aloud, clearly less confident in his marriage than he’d been before. The shocking conversation seemed to plant doubts in his mind just before Decision Day, putting Amelia and Bennett‘s relationship in a more uncertain place than ever.
