Olivia Cornu, a 30-year-old nurse practitioner, and Brett Lindsey, a 35-year-old systems administrator, seemed to hit it off at first on Lifetime’s Married at First Sight Season 11 in New Orleans. Still, Brett and Olivia faced many challenges over the following weeks, from disagreements about their future to the stress of the COVID-19 crisis.

Olivia recently opened up to Showbiz Cheat Sheet in an exclusive Q&A about how she felt walking down the aisle and seeing Brett for the first time, her relationship with her Married at First Sight castmates, and what she wishes fans knew about her.

The road to the wedding

Q: What made you decide to get married at first sight?

I have been a fan of Married at First Sight for years, and when I saw they were casting for New Orleans it was a no brainer for me. It’s a great opportunity to have the experts help find your Mr. Right.

Q: Was there anything about the casting process that you didn’t expect?

I was unsure what to expect all together with casting as it was such unfamiliar territory to me. Casting was relatively smooth sailing. I never in a million years thought the experts would find me a match.

Q: How did you feel going into your wedding day?

I was pretty calm most of the day. It seemed so unreal until it was time to walk down the aisle.

I did get nervous when I was standing with both of my dads about to walk down the aisle. They both just told me to relax and take a deep breath.

Q: What did you notice first about Brett?

I first noticed that Brett was tall and pretty attractive. I definitely was not disappointed when I got to the end of the aisle.

Fans’ perceptions – and misconceptions

Q: What do you wish viewers knew about you that they might not? Are there any misconceptions that fans have about you?

I think the biggest misconception viewers may have about me is that I am high maintenance and bratty. Everyone has their moments, right?

But there is a lot going on emotionally and mentally throughout this entire process. Were there some situations that got the best of me? Of course, I am only human.

I am confident the normal everyday day “me” is not the person some viewers believe me to be. My friends and family know who I am, and that’s what matters most.

Working through struggles

Q: What was your biggest challenge during the eight weeks?

One of my biggest challenges is that our experience went quite some time beyond the 8 weeks and was in the middle of a pandemic. That alone is a challenge. I would say a consistent challenge throughout the process was communication with Brett.

Q: What do you wish you’d done differently in the process?

I think there are several things I could have done differently, but I try not to harp on the things that I should have changed. This was a learning experience, and you can only grow from the mistakes you make.

Building friendships

Q: What was it like to get to know and connect with the other castmates?

I really enjoyed getting to know and create friendships with the other castmates. We have developed a close bond with each other. I think NOLA is the best cast but I may be biased.

Q: Is there anything the experts told you that really resonated with you?

Be as open and honest to your spouse and let love grow!
