Clara Fergus and Ryan Oubre hit it off right away on Lifetime’s Married at First Sight Season 12 in Atlanta, but they hit a few snags after their romantic honeymoon. While Clara felt completely ready to head to the bedroom with Ryan, he held back, leaving her growing increasingly sexually frustrated in the following weeks.

On the most recent episode of Married at First Sight, Clara and Ryan continued to struggle in their sex life. Married at First Sight fans took to social media to sound off about the couple’s sex life woes.

Clara wondered why Ryan wouldn’t sleep with her

On recent episodes of Married at First Sight, Ryan and Clara seemed to be on very different pages about sex. Clara explained that sex was mostly a physical, lust-based activity for her. Meanwhile, Ryan wanted to build more of an emotional connection before getting physically intimate. He lamented the fact that Clara seemed to only have “one thing on her mind” and insisted they build trust before having sex.

But Clara was especially frustrated by the double standard between the two in terms of sexual activity. In a conversation with the other Married at First Sight brides, Clara revealed that she was “getting Ryan off every night,” but he wouldn’t reciprocate or fully have sex with her. She didn’t understand what he was waiting for, and she felt slighted by his lack of sexual reciprocation. Clara also believed that he had unrealistic expectations about sex as a kind of “fairy tale” in marriage.

Many ‘Married at First Sight’ fans thought Ryan was being selfish

Some Married at First Sight fans fiercely defended Clara in terms of her sex life issues with Ryan. Jamie Otis, a Married at First Sight alum who now hosts Married at First Sight: Unfiltered, praised Clara for being so open about sexuality on the show.

“I love how Clara is so comfortable and confident in her sexuality,” she wrote on Instagram. “So many times women are made to feel like ‘sl*ts’ if they talk about sex or express wanting their basic human needs met. Yet, when men talk about it everyone nods and agrees. Yasss, Clara! Girllll it’s ok to want a healthy sex life!”

Others argued that Ryan was selfish and hypocritical for saying he wanted to build a deeper emotional connection before sex when he was already being pleasured by his wife – but not returning the favor.

“I think Ryan is a pig,” one Married at First Sight viewer commented. “Clara said she gets him off almost every night, but he doesn’t return the favor. That’s why he’s not frustrated, he’s getting a release. Clara needs to refrain from any intimacy until he gives her the pleasure she’s demanding and deserves.”

Another fan agreed, writing, “She keeps saying they’ve done everything else but actually ‘slide it in.’ I just don’t understand Ryan.”

Others thought Clara should be more open with Ryan about her needs

While many Married at First Sight fans were on Clara’s side in the “sex debate,” others thought Clara wasn’t stating her needs openly enough to Ryan.

“I do think she needs to be 100% honest with him,” one Instagram user wrote. “If it’s not working for her and he truly cares about her he’d want to know.”

Others thought that Clara and Ryan‘s views on sex were simply far too different.

“I think a healthy sex life is fine if it is connected with emotion and that goes for everyone,” one fan argued. “Clara has never connected sex with love. That is sad. Ryan seems to mainly connect sex with love. No wonder he is holding back.”

Still other fans thought Clara’s views on sex were fine, but that she should back off a bit when it came to the topic of intimacy.

“It’s OK to want a healthy sex life but she needs to chill with pushing him because it will only make things worse and push him away from her,” a commenter wrote.

Married at First Sight airs Wednesdays on Lifetime at 8 p.m. EST.
