Martha Stewart Blasts Chip Gaines for ‘Made up Story’ and the ‘Fixer Upper’ Star Fires Back
Martha Stewart is the queen of cooking and decorating. The lifestyle guru is a legend in American pop culture and fans always love to get her takes on the latest trends. In an appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen got messy and asked Stewart about her encounter with Chip and Joanna Gaines.
After the Time 100 Gala, Chip said that he and his wife were excited to meet Stewart. The former Fixer Upper star then said it was a bummer that she didn’t know who they were.
“We were so excited to meet Martha Stewart, but she didn’t have the faintest idea who we are, not a single clue. But we don’t mind at all, Joanna was so excited to meet Martha and so we asked someone to introduce us,” Chip allegedly told Page Six back in April 2019. “Martha was very gracious and supportive, it was really wonderful moment for us to meet her.”
On WWHL, Stewart put Chip on blast saying she did know who they were.
“Chip made a big story about it. I knew exactly who they are,” Stewart added. “I admire them, I admire what they’ve done, [and] I was kind of taken aback that he made up that story. They’re published by the same publisher as my magazine. So, come on.”
Chip Gaines reacts to Martha Stewart calling him out
After the moment went viral, Chip took to Twitter to explain what happened.
“Dear Martha Stewart,” he tweeted. “You inspire Jo and me on so many levels. After meeting you at [the] Time 100 we went back to our table on cloud nine and said to Jo (jokingly), ‘I’m not sure she knows who I am.. ha!’ Someone overheard and made a (dumb) story of it. The end.”
The little spat comes as details of Chip and Joanna’s television network. Magnolia will be the name of the platform and it will be taking over the DIY Network. It will be on October 4 when the network goes live, according to Discovery president and CEO David Zaslav.
“We couldn’t be more excited,” Zaslav said during the Television Critics Association panel in Pasadena, California. “We think Chip and Joanna represent the values that America is looking for.”
Chip and Joanna Gaines continue building their empire
The Gaineses are following in on Stewart’s footsteps in building a lifestyle brand empire. Their new network name is inspired by the name of their brand Magnolia company, which also includes their magazine The Magnolia Journal.
It was back in April of last year that Chip and Joanna announced their goals were for the new network.
“Our intention with this network is to create and curate content that inspires, encourages, and helps to build bridges across our communities. We want honest, authentic programming that brings families together,” the couple said in a joint statement. “We believe David Zaslav and the team at Discovery are the perfect partners for this ambitious joint venture, and we know Allison Page is the right person to lead this charge. We’re ready to get started and are expectant for all that’s ahead.”
There’s still no word if Fixer Upper will return on the new network or a new show starring the Gaineses will be produced.
