Marvel’s ‘Shang-Chi’ Star, Simu Liu, Is a Confirmed Swiftie — ‘I’m Looking for That Scarf’
Even Simu Liu is rooting for Taylor Swift’s reunion with her red scarf. Here’s what we know about the star of Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and his unapologetic support of “Our Song” artist Swift.
Simu Liu starred as Shang-Chi in Marvel’s ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings featured Awkwafina, in addition to cameos from Brie Larson and Mark Ruffalo. However, the Marvel production starred Liu as the title character, a valet-turned superhero, after his father reveals a plot to destroy his mother’s home.
This production became a favorite of many Marvel fans, with Liu going on to appear in YouTube videos promoting the film.
Outside of his work with Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Liu shared his love for specific songs and artists. During one video, he confirmed his support for Justin Bieber and songs like “Sorry.” The actor also mentioned his love for “You Need To Calm Down” singer Swift.
Simu Liu is a fan of Taylor Swift even mentioning her iconic red scarf
During GQ’s Actually Me video segment, Liu responded to fan questioned shared on the internet. The Marvel actor shared that he would love to star in a movie with Korg from Thor: Ragnarok. He revealed that he only made $100 from a now-viral Stock photoshoot.
He also confirmed that he’s a fan of Swift, with one internet user asking if he was a “Swiftie.” Liu first responded by singing a line from “Our Song” off of the Grammy Award-winning performer’s self-titled album.
“Yeah, yeah, who wouldn’t be? On SNL she was fantastic,” Liu responded. “I’m looking for that scarf. I hope that whoever has it gives it back. You know, all of those things. Taylor Swift forever.”
The scarf that Liu referenced was originally mentioned in Swift’s “All Too Well,” re-released in 2021 with a 10-minute version and a “Sad Girl Autumn” version. Swift has not responded to this support from Liu.
Simu Liu is also a vocalist for ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: The Album’
Liu often shares support for artists like his friend AJ Rafael and Swift. Liu himself is a singer, even appearing on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: The Album. He performed the song “Hot Soup,” which also features 88rising.
Genius describes “Hot Soup” as a song about Liu’s “parents and grandparents at home.” Since its premiere, the track earned over a million plays on the streaming platform Spotify.
In Marvel’s feature film, Liu’s character showcased some of his singing skills while jamming out to karaoke with his best friend. That even included an impromptu cover of “A Whole New World” from Disney’s Aladdin.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: The Album is available on most major music streaming platforms.
