It’s hard to believe that former The Great British Baking Show star Mary Berry has not tasted of a particular food item. But, according to her, this is the absolute truth.

What is it? Read on for her claim, as well as what the beloved cook has been up to.

The one person she loves cooking for

Berry most of all loves to cook for her husband, Paul, with whom she has been married 53 years. The couple has been married since 1966 after he proposed three times. He’s been by her side all of her cooking career, as well as their three children. Their marriage is still strong and happy.

The 84-year-old cook told The Daily Mail how she sneakily gets Paul to do something he doesn’t really want to do.

“When I want to ask my husband Paul something a bit tricky, such as accompanying me to a grand event when he’s not so keen, I always wait until after a particularly tasty meal.”

Why Berry will simply never retire from cooking

The Quick Cooking host has been even more busy after she left The Great British Baking Show in 2016, working on cookbooks and judging contests. Viewers were saddened to see her leave the long-running program but gratified to know she hasn’t left the cooking world, and has no plans to.

“One day they’ll push you to one side and say they don’t want you anymore. It isn’t work, it’s sheer pleasure,” Berry told The Telegraph. “My advice for children is: when they’ve finished their schooling, for goodness sake find something – whatever it is – that when you get up in the morning, you want to go and work. You get out of bed and want to go and enjoy it. Because when people say, ‘I can’t wait to retire’, I’m not going to retire until they kick me out.”

The food that has never touched her lips

Although Berry hosts her show, Quick Cooking, on BBC One – she has never, ever tasted fast food. Instead, her goal is to see people enjoying dishes they’ve made themselves, meals that can be quickly put together and savored, even on a busy weeknight.

As an alternative to ordering takeout, she would like to see home cooks make their own meals from scratch and put delicious homemade meals on their families’ tables without having to grab for a menu.

“I have never had a takeaway. Why should I? I can muster up things very quickly,” she told My Weekly. “There are many things that you can buy to help you if you are busy and which don’t cost that much extra, like grated cheese. If you are in a hurry you can pay a little bit more for it and get food on the table quicker.”

Berry doesn’t see the point of takeout and uses shortcuts in cooking and dried pasta instead of fresh.

It’s Mary Berry’s world and we’re glad we live in it!
