Mary J. Blige, 53, Stuns in Stripes as the ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Star Celebrates the Final Season With 50 Cent
Like her Power co-star, Clifford “Method Man” Smith, Mary J. Blige has dazzled us with her iconic music and electrifying on-screen presence. With unforgettable roles in films like Rock of Ages and Mudbound, Mary has delivered her most compelling performance yet as Monet Tejada in 50 Cent’s Power Book II: Ghost. With just one season remaining to conclude these stories, Blige promises a “crazy” final run. See her celebrate the season four premiere with 50 Cent and her co-stars.
On June 6, Blige gathered with friends, fans, and the cast of Power Book II: Ghost. She wore a long asymmetrical striped knit dress ($3,350) by Balmain. Curated by celebrity stylist Maurícía Henry, the black and white outfit included extra-large gold hoop earrings, a thick gold choker, several gold cuffs, and a black cuff.
Blige added gold heels and a gold statement ring on her pointer finger. The “Just Fine” singer’s one-shoulder dress showed off her bicep tattoo as she smiled with co-stars. For makeup, she wore a smokey eye and natural lip, letting her glowing skin shine through.
Posting to her Instagram before the premiere, the “Be Without You” singer wrote, “Wow, so bittersweet. The Power Book II: Ghost final season premiere.” Blige credits her role as Monet with building her confidence as an actor. The 53-year-old told Vibe, “Wow, I’m super comfortable with becoming a character, like at the drop of the hat. So it’s really building my confidence as an actress.”
The last time we saw Monet, she was fighting for her life in the hospital after being shot. According to the latest trailer, she does survive, but her time in the hospital, much like the chaos that follows, is anything but simple. Blige told EW, “When fighting for her life, she’s visited by her two lovers. She murdered both of them, so they visit her, and they’re not saying nice things.”
The final season will be the ultimate test for Blige‘s character. “The dynamic goes crazy,” Blige states. “It just goes completely, terribly wrong.” As fans eagerly await the season to unfold, the “Family Affair” singer has several projects in the works. She recently hosted the Strength of a Woman Summit in NYC. Blige continues to work on her Sister Love jewelry line and Sun Goddess wine collection.
