The 2011 pandemic thriller Contagion has become once again extremely relevant, now that we are dealing with the coronavirus outbreak. ‘Contagion’ cast members, including Matt Damon post PSA videos during virus outbreak about social distancing, washing your hands, etc.
The stars from the 2011 movie Contagion, recently teamed up with the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Laurence Fishburne, and other actors of Contagion, shot at-home PSAs about the dangers of COVID-19. They also had some advice on what we can do to help.
Damon shared in his video:
A few years a go, a bunch of us did this movie called Contagion. Which we’ve noticed is creeping its way back up on the charts on iTunes–for obvious reasons, given what we’re all living through right now.
The Bourne Identity star shared that all of the information in the video was “vetted by” scientists and health experts.
“I’m here to talk to you about social distancing,” Damon told the viewers. He also reminded people that Contagion “was a movie, [but] this is real life.”
Anyone could catch the coronavirus, the actor said.
“No matter how young you are,” he highlighted.
Matt Damon tells viewers ‘you are saving lives’ by staying home during coronavirus outbreak
“New viruses emerge all the time,” Damon said.”This isn’t the first and it won’t be the last.” The Contagion lead also called out young people who are still traveling and going to the beach.
“If you are young and healthy, you might think that this is no big deal because this is nothing more than a bad cold for you,” the actor continued. “And that is not true, spring breakers.”
Damon was likely referring to a recent viral video in which a news station in Florida interviewed young adults about keeping their spring break travel plans despite the pandemic. Young people are not immune, the Contagion actor urged his fans to remember.
“Almost 40% of the people hospitalized in this pandemic are under 55,” Damon said. What’s his advice?
“You can actually sit on the couch … and save a life at the same time,” the actor explained. He reminded all those quarantining: “you are saving lives.” And anyone who gets a “hard time” from their non-quarantined loved ones can tell them that, too.
“Please do your part,” Damon said. The movie star concluded on an encouraging note: “Other generations have been asked to do extraordinary things. We’re just being asked to stay at home. We got this.”
Adviser on ‘Contagion’ tested positive for COVID-19
Dr. Ian Lipkin, a medical adviser on Contagion recently announced that he had been diagnosed with coronavirus. On Lou Dobbs Tonight, Dr. Lipkin shared the news with host David Asman.
Fox reported that Lipkin warned Fox Business viewers of one essential fact about the virus.
“If it can hit me, it can hit anybody,” he said. “That’s the message I want to convey.” Dr. Lipkin also talked about his painful experience dealing with COVID-19.
“This has become very personal for me, too,” the Contagion adviser explained. “I have COVID as of yesterday. And it is miserable.”
