After two years, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez officially called it quits on their marriage. The couple got back together in 2021 and tied the knot in 2022. Unfortunately, they couldn’t make their relationship work. Now, Affleck is likely leaning on his best friend, Matt Damon, for support. Here’s how Damon might get dragged into the divorce proceedings due to his production company with Affleck.

Matt Damon might get dragged into Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s divorce due to his production company

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have been best friends since childhood. They own a production company together. The friends launched Artists Equity in November 2022, four months after Affleck married Jennifer Lopez in July 2022.

“Artists Equity is an independent, artist-led studio reimagining the relationship between talent, studio, and distributor,” the website explains. “We prioritize and partner with creators through an innovative model so that all can truly participate and realize the value they bring to a project.”

Lopez and Affleck reportedly don’t have a prenup, which might complicate dividing their assets. Everything the couple acquired during their marriage is to be divided equally because of their lack of prenup. While Lopez and Affleck seem to want to play fair in their divorce, what will happen with Artists Equity remains unclear. Affleck and Damon started the production company after Affleck married Lopez, possibly meaning Damon will get dragged into the divorce proceedings. Lopez might be entitled to profits from movies produced by the company.

Matt Damon was outwardly supportive of Ben Affleck when Affleck and Jennifer Lopez tied the knot. However, he might had “serious reservations” from the start. A source said Damon “hates” how Lopez treats his best friend.

“Matt’s had serious reservations about Bennifer 2.0 since the beginning,” the source told OK! Magazine in December 2023. “He’s tried to be publicly supportive for Ben’s sake, but the fact is he hates the way J.Lo treats his buddy and can no longer hold his tongue!”

The source added that Damon tried to give Affleck advice on Lopez, but Affleck “totally blew up” on his best friend. “It feels like history repeating itself because 20 years ago, they stopped talking for the exact same reason.”

The insider noted that Damon feels “nauseous” looking at how Lopez treats Affleck. “Seeing his pal out there posing on one red carpet after another, totally playing up this role as J.Lo’s arm candy, makes Matt nauseous,” they claimed. “He can’t stand to see her emasculate Ben.”

Ben Affleck won’t attend the ‘Unstoppable’ premiere, but J.Lo and his best friend will

Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon worked together on the film Unstoppable. When news of Lopez and Affleck’s divorce hit the media, fans wondered whether the exes would promote the movie together. A source told People that Lopez and Damon plan to attend the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, but Affleck doesn’t.

Another source told In Touch Weekly that Affleck and Damon are “invested” in the film’s success no matter what happens in their lives.

Unstoppable is a tricky one because Ben and Matt are so invested in its success, even if everything you see indicates that Ben and Jennifer are ending their marriage,” the source shared. “… It puts these guys in a tricky position if Ben and Jennifer are really done, but for now, they both want the movie to hit and exist apart from Ben’s crazy relationship drama.”
