Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have seen each other through life’s highs and lows and remain best friends. Damon likely remembers when Affleck and Jennifer Lopez first fell in love in the early 2000s. While the couple didn’t work out, they fell back in love in 2021 and tied the knot in 2022. Damon attended Affleck and Lopez’s beautiful Georgia wedding in August 2022.
Unfortunately, Affleck and Lopez might’ve hit an unrecoverable rough patch in 2024. Insiders alleged that the couple is looking toward divorce, and evidence shows that the couple hasn’t seen or spoken to each other in weeks.
“Ben feels like he’s been weighed down this year,” an insider told OK! Magazine. “He will always care for Jen, but he knows the marriage is done, and he wants to focus on himself right now.”
Another source added that Affleck and Lopez want their divorce to be “seamless,” and their prenup will help.
As for Damon, the best friend has allegedly been “so supportive” through Affleck’s public marriage woes.
“Matt has been so supportive throughout this ordeal,” a source close to Affleck told the publication. “Matt’s a great distraction, and he makes Ben laugh.”

Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Casey Affleck worked together on the new buddy comedy, The Instigators. While the younger Affleck brother acts alongside Damon in the film, Ben Affleck produced the film. Damon spoke to Yahoo about his deep love and respect for the brothers and how he can stay “really blunt” with them.
“We solve problems a lot quicker because we can just be really blunt with each other because our egos aren’t really involved,” Damon explained. “Somebody saying they don’t like your idea isn’t a threatening thing. When a stranger says that, it’s like, ‘Oh my God, they think I’m talentless.’ But like, if he tells me that … that must have been a bad idea. Let’s move on. So, you get to the kind of creative solutions a lot quicker.”
Damon, Affleck, and Lopez will likely promote their film, Unstoppable, in early fall 2024, no matter where Lopez and Affleck’s marriage stands. While Damon has worked with Lopez, he hasn’t commented on his experience.

A source told In Touch Weekly that Damon is “pushing” Affleck to stay close to Jennifer Garner during troubled times, especially given Affleck’s past with alcohol abuse. Garner and Affleck were married for 10 years before splitting. They maintain a solid co-parenting relationship now.
“She’s always been a calming influence on Ben,” the insider explained, “which is why Matt’s pushing Ben to stay super close to her and their three kids. He’s also agreed to co-star with Ben in a new crime thriller called RIP. Anything to keep him from having idle time on his hands.”
