Matthew Broderick Recalls the Moment He Met Sarah Jessica Parker in 1991

Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker are one of the sweetest couples in Hollywood. Their relationship has stood the test of time, considering they met 30 years ago and are now stronger than ever before. And according to the Ferris Bueller’s Day Off star, he can clearly recall the moment he first met the woman who would end up becoming the love of his life.

How did Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker meet?

Broderick and Parker met back in 1991. At the time, the Sex and the City star was still recovering from the break up of her long-term relationship with Robert Downey Jr.

Although she was very much in love with the Iron Man star, his battle with drug and alcohol addiction ultimately destroyed their relationship.

And while Parker was in the midst of moving on, she became close with Broderick.

The two met while working at the Naked Angels theater company. Despite the actors being most notable for their film and television roles, both Parker and Broderick adore theater most of all. It was at that theater company that the two really got to know each other. And according to Parker, they instantly clicked.

“When we were young people, all we ever wanted was to be good working actors,” she said, referring to herself and her husband. “We didn’t think of fame or money because, honestly, money was never part of the dream. It was to work in theater, to be around those people whose work I was in total awe of.”

According to Broderick, he can very clearly recall the moment he first laid eyes on his future wife.

“I do remember first meeting her,” Broderick said, according to Oprah Daily. “I still remember very clearly seeing her walk down the street toward the movie theater… it’s very unique because I wouldn’t remember most people the first time I saw them come down the street. [But] I remember it as clear as day.”

How do Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick keep the spark alive in their marriage?

Broderick and Parker have been able to keep the spark alive in their marriage for decades. While this is a great milestone for any relationship, it is especially nice to see with celebrity couples, who tend to split more frequently than most.

And according to Parker, one of the reasons they are able to keep their relationship so strong after all these years is because they are really good friends with one another. As opposed to just being romantically involved, they actually really enjoy each other’s company.

“We really are friends beyond everything else, and we talk a lot,” Broderick agreed, according to Good Housekeeping. “She’s really funny, and she makes me laugh.”

“I still just really like him,” says Parker of her husband. “I’m sure I annoy him, and he annoys me, but I literally learn about him every day.”
