Matthew McConaughey’s Ex Is Now Best Friends With His Wife
Matthew McConaughey is happily married to his wife, Camila Alves; the two met back in 2006 and tied the knot in 2012. McConaughey and Alves are couple goals, and it turns out the Brazilian supermodel has become close friends with McConaughey’s ex.
Matthew McConaughey’s future wife was a love-at-first-sight moment
By the time McConaughey had met Alves, he’d solidified himself as one of the biggest actors of the decade — and had dated a number of stars in the process. McConaughey had recently broken up with Penelope Cruz when he laid eyes on Alves, and to him, it was love at first sight.
Alves and McConaughey met at a club, where McConaughey recalled telling himself, “Get your ass out of the chair and go get her.”
However, the instant obsession wasn’t the same on Alves’ end. “The first interaction, I did not know who he was,” Alves once told Access Hollywood, per Oprah Magazine. “At the time he had a really long beard, and he had this Rasta hat. He was all covered up, and I didn’t really realize who he was.” Still, McConaughey’s friend, Lance Armstrong, clued her in, and she and McConaughey ended up going on a date a few nights later.
McConaughey’s ex, Sandra Bullock, is close friends with Alves
Fast forward more than a decade later, and McConaughey and Alves have been married for eight years. And as it turns out, Alves has become close friends with McConaughey’s ex, Sandra Bullock. McConaughey and Bullock reportedly dated for nearly two years after meeting on the set of “A Time To Kill” back in 1996. Still, the two kept their relationship quiet and often denied that they were a couple.
It’s possible that keeping things low-key was for the best; it’s allowed Bullock to remain in McConaughey’s life all these years and even become close friends with Alves. Bullock’s been seen multiple times hanging out with Alves, and the two have even been spotted spending time together along with their kids. The two once took their children to watch a high school marching band performance in New Orleans; Bullock had donated money to the school after Hurricane Katrina damaged it back in 2005.
McConaughey and Bullock only had kind words for each other when they split up
McConaughey and Bullock were able to stay close after their breakup, and they’ve only ever had nice things to say to each other. “It’s the work we both put in; there’s a great amount of respect and love,” Bullock once told Cosmopolitan of her relationship with McConaughey after their split. “I feel very cared for by Matthew. No matter where he is in his life or where I am in mine — he could be married — I know we would stay close.”
Bullock went on to marry Jesse James in 2005, but rumors of infidelity caused the couple to divorce in 2010. Bullock has been dating Bryan Randall since 2015.
