MCU Scoop: Miles Morales to Lead ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ Series Following Live-Action ‘Into the Spider-Verse’
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse premiered to critical and audience adulation, going on to receive the 2019 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film. While the multiple Spidey incarnations all captivated fans, many now hold a special place in their hearts for Miles Morales. Following the success of the Spider-Verse film, it looks like the Marvel Cinematic Universe plans to bring the character into its live-action landscape. Recent insider reports suggest the plan of attack.
A live-action Miles Morales may be on the way
Mikey Sutton of Geekosity: All Things Pop Culture recently took to the internet – with multiple youtube outlets going to report his scoop — to explain the reported plans for Morales.
According to the Marvel and DC Insider, both Miles Morales and Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire edition) will appear in a live-action Spider-Verse film, yet Tobey Maguire will mostly serve a transitional purpose. Sutton explained:
In a blockbuster scoop from months ago, I revealed that current plans were to bring back Tobey Maguire for one last swing as the amazing arachnid for a live-action interpretation of Into the Spider-Verse which would find him teaming up with Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield. However, it wouldn’t have a happy ending as they would like to have Maguire — and quite possibly under the supervision of original Spider-Man director Sam Raimi — die at the climax in heroic Endgame fashion. This would inspire Miles Morales to become Spidey in that universe.

Sutton explains that Miles Morales will exist in the same universe as Sam Raimi’s initial Spidey character, which would coincide with the fact that Raimi is set to direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Who better to establish a connection to Raimi’s prior blockbuster success than Raimi himself?
Gwen Stacy and Miles Morales will be a couple in this Spidey universe
Rather than mimicking the previous Tobey plotline or skating boringly close to the Tom Holland-led franchise, the Miles Morales Spider-man saga will reportedly follow a new trajectory. Mikey Sutton explains that his franchise will be called The Ultimate Spider-Man and take place years after the Spider-Verse movie. Morales will be a young savior, learning how to save the day, as Gwen Stacy steals his heart. Sutton explained:
Morales will be paired with Spider-Gwen in a contemporary twist on the original Silver Age story arc. As with Morales, Spider-Gwen already exists; there is no long origin story. Sony will be releasing this movie but apparently Kevin Feige is seriously interested in producing this himself, another extension of Disney’s relationship with that company.

Sutton concludes with the fact that Morales will not be cast to replace Tom Holland’s Spidey; rather, he will exist in a different universe, fighting crime in a different timeline. The two will exist side-by-side, providing comic book fans with trajectories that could otherwise not be simultaneously executed.
