Fans are still trying to make sense of Meagan Good and DeVon Franklin’s split. The two were married for nearly a decade and the Pastor/Film Producer constantly protected the Cousin Skeeter star against backlash from the Christian community regarding Good’s style and fashion choices. It appeared their union would stand the test of time. But those close to the relationship say their split was inevitable.

Meagan Good and DeVon Franklin announce their split

Multiple media outlets reported that Franklin filed divorce documents from the former My Wife & Kids star in LA on Dec. 20. The reason for the divorce filing wasn’t immediately made known. It came months after the pair celebrated their 9-year wedding anniversary in June, with both sharing touching love notes to one another on social media.

The soon-to-be-divorced couple both shared the same photo and caption regarding their split to their respective Instagram accounts. The photo features them both sitting on a grassy lawn with their backs facing the camera. Franklin’s arm is around Good while they overlook the scenery. They both list their location as “Forever Love.”

“After much prayer and consideration we have decided to go into our futures separately but forever connected,” the post begins. “We celebrate almost a decade of marriage together and a love that is eternal. There’s no one at fault, we believe this is the next best chapter in the evolution of our love. We are incredibly grateful for the life-changing years we’ve spent together as husband and wife. We are also extremely thankful to God for the testimony being created inside us both and for blessing our lives with each other.”

Sources say the pair didn’t spend enough time with one another

While the breakup is a shock to fans and celebrity admirers, a source tells People Magazine that the split was “a long time coming.” “Their work schedules often kept them apart, and they just haven’t been spending a lot of time together this past year,” the source told the publication. “When they did have time in their schedules, it’d often just be hours that they would be able to spend quality time together.”

It appears just as quickly as the romance blossomed, it faded just as fast. “They moved really quickly when they first got together, and DeVon fell super hard for her,” the source added. “It’s sad but it’s been a long time coming. Meagan is really busy with work right now and is doing her best to stay positive. After so long together, it’s a big life change for both of them obviously.”

Apparently, the pandemic only made things more complicated per the source. “Due to their busy work schedules and filming in different states, they didn’t see each other that much even before COVID,” they added. “Then they spent a massive amount of time together, but after that, they barely saw each other.”

The two give mixed messages before and after the breakup

Up until mid-summer, Good and Franklin shared their love on social media. Good recently celebrated the debut of her Amazon Prime Video series Harlem. Though she went to the premiere solo, Franklin shared his excitement online, calling Good one of the best actresses in the game.

Yahoo News reports that the paparazzi caught up with Franklin while he traveled in recent days. When asked how he was doing and whether or not he and Good remain friends, he responded by saying, “Man, that’s the love of my life.”

Good spoke to Pop Culture in the promotion of Harlem ahead of the split being made public. When asked how she relates to her character and the idea of not settling in relationships, she responded:

You’re not crazy. We’re all trying to figure it out. And I think that sometimes you’re made to feel badly because you don’t have it all figured out, but the truth is nobody does. I think it’s really about knowing your self-worth. And if you don’t know, working at it every day and knowing that you deserve God’s best and knowing that whoever comes into your life has to compliment where God is taking you and you don’t have to settle. And I don’t know, we’re all figuring it out though. I think that’s important to say, because it’s not said enough and we often feel awkward because we think it’s just us and it’s not.

Good and Franklin do not have any children. Whether or not starting a family is something that caused issues between them hasn’t been confirmed. But last year, Good said that she was hoping to start a family at 40. She turned 40 this Fall.
