Meagan Good Freaked Out When She Noticed Her Skin Was Getting Lighter
Actor Meagan Good has always been invested in taking care of her skin. But fans noticed Good’s skin was becoming a bit lighter over the years. Initially, many thought this was an intentional choice by Good. But it was later revealed to be an accident.
Meagan Good once responded to allegations that she was making her skin lighter
Rumors floated around the internet that Good bleached her skin using a procedure that makes the complexion lighter. At the time, it turns out Good’s skin really was becoming lighter. But she revealed that it wasn’t because of an intentional cosmetic procedure. The process started when Good went to see a professional to deal with an injury on her leg. Afterward, the health professional recommended a few cosmetic products that benefited the actor.
“I used her anti-aging products, and they were phenomenal. So I was like, ‘Oh, she’s the truth.’ And after I used her anti-aging product, I did find out that she was unlicensed. But I didn’t think it was a big deal because I’d already used her products and I felt good about it,” Good once said in an interview with Where Is The Buzz TV.
The Shazam star continued to apply the product to her face. It didn’t take long for her to notice its effects on her complexion.
“And as I saw myself getting lighter, I started freaking out, and I said, ‘What’s going on?’ She said, ‘Oh no, no. It’s just going to lift the damage first, and then everything will come back.’ And I said, ‘Oh ok, cool.’ I saw myself getting lighter. And I was like, ‘What is happening?!’ And she was like, ‘Oh, don’t worry. Your color will come back.’ And I said, ‘But when is it going to come back?’ She said, ‘It’ll come back soon; I promise,’” Good remembered.
But the color still hadn’t returned. Eventually, being seen in public led to rumors of skin bleaching, which had a huge impact on Good.
“It broke my heart to think that there’s little girls seeing this commentary and thinking it’s true,” Good said. “It broke my heart that in a season when you have young Black men and women being murdered everywhere that someone would think for one second that I don’t love my Black skin. That bothered me. And when it all first happened, it was extremely traumatic because I went to this woman for a scar removal, like a dog bite on my leg.”
Meagan Good felt peace after dealing with the backlash
The rumors bothered Good to an extent. But the Cousin Skeeter actor quickly realized the situation was out of her hands.
“I was like, I look so crazy. I just have to sit in this and let people think what they want to think. And there’s nothing I can do about it,” she told Essence not too long ago.
However, this led to a little bit of enlightenment for Good. She learned to be less concerned with others’ opinions.
“But I remember when I was praying, I felt a peace come over me, and I was like, ‘This is an answer to a prayer,’ she adds. “I didn’t realize it at the time, but my concern with what other people thought about me was such a thing that I had to go through something like that where I literally had no other option, and I had to find my joy and my peace regardless of what everyone was thinking,” Good said.
“I had to be put in that place in order for me to get as free as I am now,” she added. “By the time I got to the divorce and all of that, it was like ‘I’m okay.’”
