Megan Thee Stallion Was Shocked BTS Wanted to Collaborate With Her
On Aug. 27, BTS released a remix of their hit single “Butter” featuring Grammy Award-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion. Because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, BTS and Megan Thee Stallion were not able to promote the remix in person.
However, the artists were able to meet in September 2021 when Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook traveled to New York City for the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly. On Oct. 8, a new Bangtan Bomb was uploaded on the BANGTANTV YouTube channel, and it shows Megan Thee Stallion and the members of BTS meeting for the first time.
BTS and Megan Thee Stallion met in person for the first time
On Sept. 20, the members of BTS delivered a speech at the Sustainable Development Goals Moment at the UN General Assembly and performed their single “Permission to Dance.”
While in the U.S., the band also visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art with South Korean First Lady Kim Jung-sook, met with the members of Coldplay, and met Megan Thee Stallion for the first time.
On Sept. 21, Megan Thee Stallion and the Korean band shared photos together on their social media accounts. In the photos, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook posed for selfies with Megan Thee Stallion while in New York City.
“It’s Thee Hot Girl Coach and BTS @BTS_twt,” Megan Thee Stallion tweeted.
BTS tweeted, “Butter crew @theestallion.”
Megan Thee Stallion was surprised BTS were fans of her music
On Oct. 8, a new Bangtan Bomb was shared on the BANGTANTV YouTube channel. The video shows fans a behind-the-scenes look at the first meeting between the artists.
During their visit, Megan Thee Stallion brought up collaborating with the septet on more songs.
“Whenever we do another song, I feel like we got to do it big, do the video, and it’s gonna be epic,” she said.
RM told her, “So after we listened to your rap recorded, everybody was so impressed, and kind of like so grateful.”
Megan Thee Stallion then shared her excitement that the band wanted to collaborate with her in the first place.
“No I was so happy, and I was so grateful,” she said. “I said, ‘Oh my gosh.’ I had already told my manager, ‘I want to do a song with BTS.’ And then when it came up I was like, ‘They know me?’ I was so happy.”
Megan Thee Stallion worked hard to make the collaboration happen
Before the “Butter” remix dropped, Megan Thee Stallion had to stop her label from blocking the release of the single. Following the release of the remix, the rapper was interviewed by the London Evening Standard.
During the interview, Megan Thee Stallion explained why she was so determined to collaborate with BTS, saying:
“I’m always going to fight for myself, I’m always going to stand up for myself. I feel like how dare anybody try to silence me? My label was just like, ‘Oh, we don’t like the song, so you’re not putting it out,’ and I’m like, ‘Since when has anybody ever been able to do that in the history of ever? That doesn’t even make any sense.’ I want to do a song with BTS, I’m a fan. How are y’all just going to randomly crush my dreams. I’m like, ‘Oh hell no. I prayed on this, I manifested this and I’m not going to let anything get in the way of it.’ This is my first time to be able to touch international Hotties. It’s just a new opportunity to spread Megan, it’s a new opportunity to spread the positivity that I want to spread in the world. So I did everything I could do to get it out and now that it’s out we all feel such a relief and we feel so happy.”
“Butter (feat. Megan Thee Stallion)” is available on streaming and music-purchasing platforms.
