Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the UK for Platinum Jubilee weekend. During the four days of festivities marking Queen Elizabeth II’s 70-year reign, the pair stayed largely out of the spotlight. That is, except for when they attended a jubilee church service. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex went to St. Paul’s Cathedral, along with other royals, to honor Queen Elizabeth. So what did they say during the televised service? According to a lip reader, Meghan reassured Harry with a few words.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made their first joint appearance in the UK since 2020
Harry and Meghan’s jubilee service appearance happened on June 3, 2022. It came after the pair watched Trooping the Colour with non-working royals a day earlier. During the kick-off to Platinum Jubilee weekend, they were only seen briefly peering out of windows with royal kids.
However, that wasn’t the case when Harry and Meghan arrived at St. Paul’s Cathedral. They exited their car (to cheers) and smiled as they climbed the steps and headed inside.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were seated in the second row next to Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice and their husbands. Meanwhile, Prince William and Kate Middleton, who arrived nearly 20 minutes after Meghan and Harry, sat on the other side of the church. Next to them were Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles.
Meghan and Harry’s jubilee service appearance marked a big moment for them. It was the first time the parents of two attended an official engagement since stepping back from their roles as senior royals in 2020.
Previously, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex privately visited Queen Elizabeth on their way to the Invictus Games in April 2022.
A lip reader says Meghan Markle told Prince Harry it ‘will be fine’
Harry and Meghan’s jubilee service appearance included a few moments of the couple chatting. At various points during the 50-minute service, they were seen talking among themselves or sharing a few words with members of the extended royal family.
As lip reader Becky Pemberton told The Sun, Meghan appeared to offer Harry a few reassuring words during the service. Pemberton said Meghan remarked to her husband of four years, “Yeah, it will be fine.”
As for the “it” Meghan referred to, the context is unknown. Although, according to another lip reader, Juliet Sullivan, they’d been spotted discussing the logistics as they arrived.
“So when we go … and then we have to … that’s together …,” Sullivan told the Daily Mail Harry remarked to Meghan. Then, per the lip reader, Meghan said, “Yes,” gave a nod, and replied, “Should be fun,” with a laugh.
Prince Harry seemed anxious according to a body language expert
Meghan and Harry’s jubilee service appearance had them in the same room as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Albeit across the aisle but still nearby. Seeing as it marked Harry’s first public appearance alongside William in nearly a year, all eyes were on them.
Body language expert Judi James told the Mirror how Harry appeared “anxious” during the service. She admitted he did have “odd moments of fun break-outs.” However, to her, they seemed like a “symptom of inner anxiety or tension.”
The rest of the time, Harry exhibited what James described as a “haunted eye expression” with excessive blinking pointing to “inner anxiety.” He also leaned down to speak to Meghan, which to James, suggested he seemed to be looking to her for support.
