Meghan Markle and Archie Spoke to Queen Elizabeth Privately Before Prince Philip’s Funeral
As seems to be the norm with the British media, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex has been receiving a lot of criticism lately. Since Prince Philip’s death, people have bashed her for not attending Prince Philip’s funeral, despite her being well into a geriatric pregnancy and the world still being in a pandemic. Though Meghan did not make it to the funeral in the United Kingdom, like her husband Prince Harry, Meghan and Queen Elizabeth II did speak before the service.
Prince Philip’s funeral
On Apr. 9, Buckingham Palace announced that Prince Philip had died.
“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,” the royal family’s official Instagram captioned a picture of Philip.
“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle,” the post continued. “The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss. Further announcements will be made in due course.
Prince Philip’s funeral arrangements had been in the works for years, but with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, a few things had to be changed, including the guest list. Due to the U.K.’s current regulations, only 30 people were allowed to attend the funeral.
Prince Harry attended the funeral
Prior to Queen Elizabeth’s husband’s funeral, it was revealed that Meghan would not attend.
“Prince Harry will attend his grandfather’s funeral on Saturday (following all U.S. and U.K. Covid-19 protocols in the process),” royal reporter Omid Scobie tweeted prior to the service. “A source adds that Meghan, who is heavily pregnant, made ‘every effort’ to travel but didn’t receive medical clearance from her physician.”
Harry flew to the U.K. and quarantined at his old home, Frogmore Cottage, with Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank before attending the funeral.
Though Meghan herself could not attend, she reportedly watched the service from California. She also sent a personalized note and a wreath designed by British florist Willow Crossley to the royals. The arrangement contained Eryngium, which was a nod to the Royal Marines and Acanthus mollis, the national flower of Philip’s homeland, Greece, and roses, the birth flower for June, the month Philip was born.
Meghan Markel and Queen Elizabeth II spoke before Prince Philip’s funeral
Meghan and Archie, Prince Harry’s first child, reportedly spoke to the queen before the services.
“Meghan spoke with Harry before his grandfather’s funeral,” a source told People. “Meghan and Archie also spoke with the Queen earlier this week.”
In fact, while her husband was in the U.K, Meghan checked up on him often.
“Meghan and Harry have been in touch every day,” the source continued. “She knows the trip to England has been difficult for Harry. He didn’t want to leave Meghan and Archie alone. Meghan has insisted to him every day though that they are fine. She hasn’t wanted him to worry.”
Harry is now back home in California with Meghan. He is expected to return to England in July to present the new statue of he and Prince William’s late mother, Princess Diana.
