Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Are Closer to Oprah Winfrey Than Fans Realize
It’s a small world — at least when you’re a celebrity. Many famous people tend to brush shoulders with one another. Whether it’s the shared understanding of what it’s like to live in the spotlight, the fact that they get invited to the same amazing events, or simply that they tend to operate in the same circles of wealth and social status, there are plenty of famous friendships that fans don’t always know about.
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry have plenty of famous connections. Between Prince Harry’s life as a British royal and Meghan’s Hollywood background, they’ve had lots of opportunities for them. One friendship that fans of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex might not know about is with Oprah Winfrey.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have certainly ruffled a lot of feathers. Even before their shocking and unprecedented decision to step away from their royal roles, Meghan and Prince Harry had made headlines for breaking traditions left and right.
At this point, it’s not clear exactly how the couple will fit into the British royal family in the future, and their decision to put down roots and raise their son in LA has caused more than a few raised eyebrows. Even if the move has made them unpopular among some critics, they still have plenty of close friends in high places.
Their inner circle includes an impressive list of elites. James Corden, who was invited to the royal wedding, has been close friends with Prince Harry for years, and the two now live close by in their Californian homes. Adele is another famous neighbor, and she apparently swapped notes with the couple on the best ways to get acquainted with their new neighborhood.

Another close connection for the Sussexes is Tyler Perry. It’s rumored that the couple stayed at the famous film director’s sprawling Beverly Hills estate. Perry had been captivated by the pair since watching their documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey. It’s believed that Perry met the couple through their mutual friend: Oprah Winfrey.
Winfrey, of course, has many famous connections because her legacy as one of the most successful talk show hosts of all time has brought her up close and personal with tons of famous people over the years.
Many of her on-screen celebrity moments have gone down in history. These include her famous interviews with people like Whitney Houston and Lance Armstrong. Winfrey has a reputation for being able to get people to open up, and that skill was definitely on display when it came to her famous guests.
The Sussexes friendship with Oprah Winfrey is a close one
Of course, simply brushing shoulders with someone else in the elite sphere isn’t the same as a close friendship. It seems like the Duke and Duchess have more than a passing acquaintance with Winfrey, however.
According to Vanity Fair, Winfrey has been a staunch defender of Markle and Prince Harry as they have faced cruel comments from the press on both sides of the pond.
Now that the couple has settled down in L.A., it appears that Winfrey is making sure they’re feeling welcome by introducing them to many of her famous friends. In addition to helping them secure an invite to Perry’s mansion, Winfrey is also responsible for connecting the pair to famed self-help guru Brené Brown.
Brown and Winfrey have been close friends and collaborators since Brown’s appearance on Super Soul Sunday in 2013. Now it looks like Winfrey is putting those connections to work to help the Sussexes feel more at home.
