Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Pick Godparents For Archie Harrison, Did Prince William Make The Cut?
It’s already been a few weeks since Meghan Markle welcomed her first child with Prince Harry, and the couple is now looking to name godparents for little Archie Harrison. Inside sources have targeted a few likely candidates for the honor but did Prince William and Kate Middleton make the cut?
Who will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle name godparents?
Although William and Middleton would be the obvious choices, it sounds like Harry and Markle will look outside the family when they pick godparents. According to Express, sources believe the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will choose a close friend to be Archie’s godparents.
At the top of the list is a man named Mark Dyer, who worked as a royal equerry for many years. Dyer reportedly helped Harry and William get through their mother’s tragic passing and holds a special place in their hearts.
While some fans may be surprised to learn that William did not make the cut, there is a good reason why he will not be Archie’s godfather. For starters, William is Archie’s uncle and it goes against tradition to name an uncle as godfather.
This is exactly why Harry is not the godfather to any of William’s children. Harry and Meghan Markle will likely follow this unsaid rule, though they have yet to reveal who they might name as godparents.
Will a member of the royal family be named a godparent?
Although it sounds like Harry and Markle are looking at close friends to bestow the honor, there is a chance that they pick a member of the royal family. If that happens, royal experts believe that Princess Eugenie would be a great selection.
Harry and Eugenie have shared a close bond over the years, and she reportedly loved it when he included Fergie in his wedding ceremony last year.
That said, Eugenie did not attend Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding, so it is unclear if she is a viable choice. Harry also has a few best friends that could make the cut, including the Van Straubenzee siblings.
What about Meghan Markle?
Harry’s friends and family aside, there is also a chance that Markle names someone from her side of the aisle as a godparent. Markle’s best friend, Jessica Mulroney, could easily be named godmother and is currently leading the odds with UK bookkeepers.
Mulroney has played an active part in Markle’s life over the years and her children served in the actress’s wedding party. Inside sources claim that Mulroney was one of the first people to find out that Markle was pregnant, which, if true, definitely puts her at the front of the pack.
Meghan Markle also has a slew of celebrity friends, so the options are wide open for the couple. In fact, more than one celebrity from Hollywood attended the couple’s lavish wedding last year, some of whom are still close friends with Markle. There are even rumors that the two will pick fashion guru Misha Nonoo, who allegedly introduced them a few years ago. Unfortunately, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not said anything about picking godparents, so it is difficult to say who is the clear frontrunner.
Royal watchers react to snub
While there is a good reason why William will not be named Archie’s godfather, many fans are viewing the move as a major snub. This is largely because of all the rumors surrounding Harry and William’s alleged feud, which has been brewing for quite some time.
The brothers are reportedly at odds because William thought he moved too fast with Meghan Markle. Things got so bad that sources claim they did not speak to each other for six months after wedding.
William has not commented on the godfather rumors. Harry and Markle welcomed their first baby last month. The former Suits star is still on maternity and has been raising her newborn son at the couple’s new estate on the grounds of Windsor Castle. The pair moved to the estate so that they could have more room for their growing family. They previously lived next door to William and Middleton inside Kensington Palace.
