This Is How Meghan Markle Actually Spent Her 39th Birthday
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex has turned over a new leaf in her life. The former actor has left the British royal family after a tumultuous two years in order to take back her own narrative and find happiness living a life that isn’t in the center of the global stage.
After announcing Megxit in January 2020, Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry left the U.K. to spend some more quality time together as a family with their young son, Archie. Then, just as the borders between Canada and the U.S. closed, the pair permanently relocated to Meghan’s hometown of LA.
Like many people across the globe, the Sussexes have been living in lockdown for months, renting a Beverly Hills estate from media mogul, Tyler Perry. However, quarantine didn’t make Meghan’s birthday any less special.
Meghan Markle reportedly wanted to get out of LA for her birthday
Meghan celebrated her 39th birthday on Aug. 4. Since moving to LA, the duchess has kept a pretty low profile aside from some volunteering efforts and some virtual appearances. However, like many people she was beginning to feel a tad stir crazy.
In late July, sources reported that the duchess was considering sneaking out of LA for a small birthday celebration. The Daily Mail reported that Meghan has been telling Prince Harry and her friends that she is feeling “cooped up.” She allegedly considered heading to Montecito, a community near Santa Barbara for her birthday.
“Whatever she ends up doing for her birthday, Meghan said it will be low-key,” a source explained at the time. “She said she doesn’t want to come across as being careless and irresponsible.”
The British royal family celebrated Meghan Markle’s birthday
Considering some of the reported lingering friction between the Sussexes and the rest of the British royal family and the forthcoming publication of Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand’s new book Finding Freedom, royal fans were nervus that Meghan’s birthday would be ignored by the remaining senior royals.
However, it truly looks like everyone is trying to move past any past hurt or tension that might have been present. Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince William wished the duchess a Happy Birthday on their Instagram account. They wrote, “Wishing a very happy birthday to The Duchess of Sussex today! 🎂🎈” and chose a sweet image of Meghan talking to a young girl.
Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth II as well as Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall also wished the duchess well on her birthday.

For her part, though Montecito apparently didn’t happen, Meghan still had a wonderful and love-filled birthday. Apparently, the Sussexes along with their son Archie and Meghan’s mom, Doria Ragland, had a low-key celebration at home. A source told Us Weekly,
They spent the day as a family, and in the evening, Doria looked after Archie so that Meghan and Harry could enjoy some couple time. Harry cooked Meghan a three-course dinner, but Doria helped him with the preparation. Harry organized a huge chocolate birthday cake, covered in icing sugar and balloon.
The duke also had the perfect gift for his wife. “He surprised Meghan with a necklace that he designed,” the source revealed. “And a framed photograph of the two of them, which he took himself.”
Honestly, this sounds perfect.
