Meghan Markle Catches a Stray Insult as British Fashion Designer Says ‘No’ to Dressing the Duchess
Meghan Markle has a very hit-or-miss brand when it comes to how the British feel about her. While plenty of people in the United States adore her, Meghan’s popularity never soared to quite the same heights over in the United Kingdom. The Duchess of Sussex was a member of the British royal family from 2018, when she married Prince Harry, up until 2020, when Harry and Meghan removed themselves as working royals.
Now, Meghan is once again catching stray insults as a well-known British fashion designer says he would “prefer” to dress Kate Middleton and Camilla Parker Bowles.
British fashion designer says ‘no’ when asked about dressing Meghan Markle
Meghan Markle’s style has always been top-notch. The Duchess of Sussex seamlessly blends classy with casual, understanding when elegance is needed but also not being afraid to dress down in a cute night-out look. It’s hard to argue with her fashion sense, and she’s been dubbed one of the world’s greatest fashion influencers in terms of how many people Google her name.
However, not all British fashion designers love the idea of dressing the Duchess of Sussex. Wales fashion designer Julien Macdonald recently revealed that he would not dress Meghan willingly; rather, he prefers the working royals. Macdonald has dressed Camilla Parker Bowls and told Daily Mail that he thinks Kate Middleton is “amazing” and would love to dress her as well. But when asked about whether he’d want to dress Meghan, his response was simple: “No, I prefer Kate and Camilla.”
Macdonald has dressed plenty of celebrities, including Gwyneth Paltrow and Victoria Beckham, according to Express. He didn’t go too far in explaining his reasoning behind not wanting to dress Meghan.
Meghan Markle has not returned to the United Kingdom since 2022
Though Macdonald might not want to dress the Duchess of Sussex, it doesn’t look like Meghan is chomping at the bit to wear one of his dresses, either. Meghan hasn’t even returned to the UK since 2022, so it seems she is content with being dressed by fashion designers in the United States — or those willing to travel to the states.
Harry and Meghan settled down in Montecito, California, where they are currently raising their two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Harry and Meghan are still working on their business ventures, including Harry’s philanthropic Invictus Games Foundation and Meghan’s new American Riviera Orchard. Harry and Meghan have not been back to the UK since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, and Meghan did not accompany Harry during his most recent trip for the Invictus Games ceremony.
