As the years go on, more celebrities are taking their fans on their pregnancy journeys, from announcing that they are expecting all the way to bringing their bundles of joy home. But celebrities aren’t just sharing their pregnancy wins, they are also bringing awareness to how common and painful miscarriages can be. Meghan Markle

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry welcomed their first child Archie Harrison Mount Batten Windsor in 2019. But this year, Meghan lost her second child.

“I dropped to the floor,” she revealed of the moment she miscarried in an op-ed for The New York Times. “[I] sensed that something was not right. I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.”

“Losing a child means carrying an almost unbearable grief, experienced by many but talked about by few,” she wrote.

In the article, Meghan also spoke about removing the “taboo” from talking about miscarriages.

“Some have bravely shared their stories; they have opened the door, knowing that when one person speaks truth, it gives license for all of us to do the same,” she wrote. “We have learned that when people ask how any of us are doing, and when they really listen to the answer, with an open heart and mind, the load of grief often becomes lighter — for all of us. In being invited to share our pain, together we take the first steps toward healing.”

Chrissy Teigen

After thinking that she could not get pregnant naturally, model Chrissy Teigen was overjoyed to find out she was pregnant with her third child. Unfortunately, during her pregnancy, she began bleeding uncontrollably. She checked into the hospital to get the bleeding under control and recorded much of her journey for her fans.

After being on bedrest for over a month, Teigen lost the baby.

“He just wouldn’t survive this, and if it went on any longer, I might not either,” she wrote in an essay on Medium. “We had tried bags and bags of blood transfusions, every single one going right through me like we hadn’t done anything at all.”

She went on to discuss how she dealt with the loss.

“I cried a little at first, then went into full-blown convulsions of snot and tears, my breath not able to catch up with my own incredibly deep sadness,” she continued. “Even as I write this now, I can feel the pain all over again. Oxygen was placed over my nose and mouth, and that was the first picture you saw. Utter and complete sadness.”

Christina Perri

Perri recently announced that she was expecting to give birth to her daughter earlier than her due date. Unfortunately, on Tuesday, she followed that statement up with announcing that she and her husband Paul Costabile had lost their daughter.
