Meghan Markle wanted a ‘British boyfriend,’ former friend claims

During the documentary Fergie & Meghan: Inconvenient Royals, Cundy gave a peek into her friendship with Meghan. The duchess was in London in 2013 to promote her show Suits and the documentary included a clip of Cundy interviewing Meghan.

Cundy asked how Meghan liked London in the interview. “It is very cold, but the people are so warm,” Meghan responded. “As cheesy as that sounds… I was joking today that I’ve never been called ‘love’ or ‘darling’ more in my life.”

She added, “It makes me want to stick around for a while.”

Cundy shared that she and Meghan were very friendly. “We got on like a house on fire — Meghan has a great sense of fun,” she explained in the documentary. “She loved London, she loved British men, she wanted a British boyfriend, and she wanted to work in London.”

“I could help her get to the right places and meet the right people,” Cundy added.

Lizzie Cundy claims Meghan ‘ghosted’ her after she met Prince Harry

In 2019, Cundy told The Sun how she met Meghan when they were sitting next to each other at a 2013 charity dinner. “We were having a girly chat and then she said, ‘Do you know any famous guys? I’m single and I really love English men,’” Cundy recalled.

“So I said, ‘We’ll go out and find you someone,’” the TV personality shared.

Cundy said that Meghan was ‘relaxed’ and not self-absorbed. “Meghan’s so relaxed, she liked a drink, great fun,” she explained. “I remember her asking about my boys. She was very interested and asking lots of questions. Usually, you find actresses just talk about themselves. She was really fun, really sweet. I liked her.”

When Cundy found out that Meghan and Prince Harry were dating, she texted Meghan to say, “I heard about Harry.” According to Cundy, Meghan responded, “Yeah, I know. We’ll try and hook up.”

Meghan, however, never contacted Cundy again. “She was probably told by the palace to end contact with people she befriended in the media. I was literally ghosted by her,” Cundy explained.

Prince Harry and Meghan met on a blind date

During their 2017 engagement interview, Prince Harry and Meghan shared how they first met — they were set up on a blind date by a mutual friend. They didn’t name the friend, however, with Meghan explaining, “We should protect her privacy and not reveal too much of that.”

Prince Harry agreed, saying, “We’ll protect her privacy yeah. It was literally — it was through her and then we met once and then twice back to back two dates in London, last July. The beginning of July.”

Needless to say, their blind date proved to be very successful.
