Before she became the Duchess of Sussex and called Montecito’s Chateau of Riven Rock home, Meghan Markle grew up in Los Angeles. She left the City of Angels in 2011 to begin filming the legal drama Suits and rented a place in Toronto for years. That residence is currently on the market again and going for more than what it sold for shortly after the duchess lived there.

Here’s how much it’s listed for now and a glimpse inside that home where Meghan and Prince Harry had secret date nights before they were married.

The details on Meghan’s former Toronto abode

During her time working on Suits, Meghan rented the three-bedroom home from fashion stylist Elizabeth Cabral.

It’s an A-frame house that features a plum-colored exterior with a covered-entry porch. The front door is painted “Tiffany” blue and opens into the eat-in kitchen, which boasts white cabinetry with tiled backsplash. It also has two “spa-inspired bathrooms” and wide-plank flooring. The listing describes all the finishes as “elegant” and “high-end.” Moreover, there’s a double garage with a Telsa charger. The house is located near five supermarkets and in an “excellent” school district.

It’s also the same residence where Prince Harry visited Meghan at least twice a month when they first started dating.

How much the home is selling for now

Meghan’s former home was last on the market in 2018 and sold for $1.6 million, the year after Meghan moved to London. Express noted that it’s now listed at $1.9 million.

While that price is nothing to sneeze at, it’s peanuts compared to the duchess’s Montecito digs where she and Harry reside today with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Their chateau mega-mansion is a whopping 18,671 square feet situated on 7.4 acres. It has seven bedrooms and 16 bathrooms, a library, a home office, a sauna, a game room, a wine cellar, a gym, and a five-car garage. The design is a blend of minimalistic and Scandi with classic Mediterranean accents. The exterior boasts a chicken coop, a swimming pool, a rose garden, a terrace, a wood-fired stove and barbecue, tennis courts, and a large playhouse for their kids.

In a 2022 cover story with The Cut, Meghan revealed details about why she and Harry decided on the property and how her sprawling residence is “calm, healing” and “makes her feel free.”

“One of the first things my husband saw when we walked around the house was those two palm trees,” she recalled. “See how they’re connected at the bottom? He goes, ‘My love, it’s us.’  And now every day when Archie goes by us, he says, ‘Hi, momma. Hi, papa.’ … We did everything we could to get this house. Because you walk in and go … ‘Joy.’ And exhale. And calm. It’s healing. You feel free.”

The Sussexes’ dream home cost $14 million, and it’s the first home either of them has ever owned. Some of their Santa Barbara County neighbors include Oprah Winfrey, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi.
