Meghan Markle’s Mom Doria Ragland Was Shocked She Wasn’t Allowed to Take Her Daughter out for Coffee, Insider Reveals

Meghan Markle spoke with Oprah Winfrey about how isolating the British royal family was. Now, an insider is revealing how horrified Meghan's mom Doria Ragland was when the royals did not allow the mother/daughter duo out for coffee.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, just revealed how lonely and isolated she was as a British royal family member. While her face was everywhere in the media, she revealed to Oprah Winfrey that she went weeks without ever leaving the house, especially amid her maternity leave.

Now, one royal expert is revealing how concerned Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland was when she visited the Sussexes during the Summer of 2019, and she was not allowed to take her daughter out for coffee.

Meghan Markle said the British tabloids took a toll on her mental health

Though the British press had been rude to Meghan amid her engagement to Prince Harry, things took a turn for the worse following their May 2018 wedding. After that, the duchess was splashed across every tabloid. There were tons of false stories printed about her including one that claimed she made Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge cry.

In Oprah with Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special, Meghan revealed that the royal family refused to help and that it all took such a toll on her mental health that she no longer wanted to be alive.

Prince Harry said that the racism of the British press played a “large part” in their exit from the royal fold. “The U.K. press is bigoted, specifically the tabloids,” he told Oprah.

Meghan told Oprah that The Firm and in turn the British royal family had a deep obsession with optics. However, nothing was ever as it appears. During the many months when Meghan’s face was plastered across the British tabloids which reported falses stories that The Firm refused to refute, she had barely left the house.

“I am everywhere but I am nowhere,” Meghan said told Oprah. “Has anyone talked about how it feels? Because right now I could not feel lonelier.” She described desperately wanting to go out to lunch with friends but being told it would be better if she stayed in.

Though the duchess explained that she refused to read the tabloids and the headlines, her mother and her friends because increasingly concerned and hysterical about what they were seeing.

In the months following Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor’s birth, Meghan’s mother came to stay with her for an extended period of time. However, Ragland was shocked to see that they weren’t even allowed to venture out in the town of Windsor where Frogmore Cottage is located for coffee.

“Lunch with friends could have momentarily lifted her spirits, but social outings were dismissed by royal family members and aides who said it would be better to lie low. Her image was ‘everywhere right now,’ they told her,” royal expert Omid Scobie wrote for Harper’s Bazaar. “Her isolated existence stood out in particular to her worried mother, Doria Ragland, who during a summer 2019 visit to Frogmore Cottage was surprised to discover that neither she nor her daughter was able to go out into Windsor town to pick up coffees.”
