Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are just weeks away from meeting their firstborn — and, the Duchess of Sussex’s mother, Doria Ragland is reportedly preparing for an extended trip the United Kingdom to support her daughter and son-in-law in this next chapter of their lives.

It’s no secret that Meghan Markle and Doria Ragland have a close relationship. The royal mother-in-law was the only member of the duchess’s family at the royal wedding last spring and has even gone against the royal norm and accompanied her daughter on an engagement last September.

Will Doria Ragland join Meghan Markle in the delivery room? Find out what we know, ahead.

Who will meet the royal baby first?

According to family rules, the monarch is the first person notified of a royal birth. And while that might still ring true, it doesn’t mean Queen Elizabeth is always the first person to meet the newest member of the family. When Prince William was born, Her Majesty was his first visitor, given his spot in line to the royal throne. However, she waited until after he was home to meet Prince Harry.

Will Queen Elizabeth be the first person to meet Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby? Our guess is probably not. Based on past royal births, it seems as though the queen is only the first to show up when meeting her first grandchild or a future king (although, she wasn’t Prince George’s first visitor). Chances are either Prince Charles or Doria Ragland will be the first ones to greet the little royal.

Will Doria Ragland join Meghan Markle in the delivery room?

Meghan Markle’s birth plan has been rumored for months with claims suggesting she might opt for a home birth, is considering natural birthing techniques, and even some that say she will go the traditional route and welcome her firstborn at the hospital — St Mary’s —  where her husband (and many other royal family members) were born.

In addition to where and how she will give birth, some wonder who will be there for her during labor and delivery. We have no doubt that Prince Harry will obviously join his wife in the delivery room — but what about Doria Ragland? Given their close relationship, the Duchess of Sussex could ask her mother to join her in the delivery room when she welcomes her first child (and Doria Ragland’s first grandbaby). However, the royal family has yet to confirm the possibilities (and probably won’t until long after the royal baby makes his or her appearance).

If Meghan Markle does not ask her mother to be in the room with her, we have no doubt that the grandmother-to-be will wait anxiously outside to greet her grandbaby for the first time.

When Prince William and Kate Middleton welcomed their firstborn, Carole and Michael Middleton were Prince George’s first visitors. That said, it’s unclear whether or not the Duchess of Cambridge asked her mother to join her in the delivery room.
