Meghan Markle Once Called Herself ‘Very Similar’ to Rachel Zane on ‘Suits’

For those didn’t watch Suits or for those who need a refresher, Markle played Rachel, the best paralegal at a top New York City law firm. After going to law school and getting through some test anxiety, she became a lawyer. Along the way, she fell for Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams) a bright, young associate who wasn’t technically a lawyer — it’s a long story that’ll be explained in the series. Markle bid farewell to the show after more than 100 episodes after her relationship with Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, became serious. In the wake of her departure, the show commemorated the time Markle spent playing Rachel by including a joke about her doing well in the ninth and final season of Suits as well as making references to her in the recent series finale.
Markle on how she and Rachel ‘are very similar’
For the May 2016 issue of Reader’s Digest Best Health, a publication based in Canada, Markle appeared on the cover and sat down for an interview during which she talked about her most well-known acting role, playing Rachel on Suits.
Discussing her style and that of her character’s, Markle noted one similarity between herself and Rachel.
“Rachel comes from this old school, old money era,” Markle explained before adding, “There’s an heirloom element to her clothes. With that said, just like I do with my own wardrobe, we mix and match everything in Rachel’s wardrobe.”
She continued, saying, “When you invest in a great piece, you’re going to pull it out of your closet again and again and put it with a different top or a different sweater. It creates a different, more modern look but it’s still the same timeless items. Rachel and I are very similar in that way.”
We already know Markle’s got royal style down pat. Just recently during her and Prince Harry’s tour of Africa (they brought along baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor), Markle made history when she donned a Madewell denim jacket. No one before her had worn one to represent the monarch at an official engagement.
She further emphasized her point of wearing items “again and again” when she wore many pieces of clothing, shoes, and jewelry the public’s seen her wear on other occasions. Examples include a blue shirtdress by Veronica Beard, an Everlane jumpsuit, and a striped gown among other things.
Another time Markle compared herself to Rachel
This wasn’t the first time Markle highlighted the similarities between herself to her TV counterpart.
In a 2013 interview with Marie Claire, Markle shared another way in which she and Rachel are similar.
“Rachel and I are very similar: ambitious, driven, and always trying to take the bull by its horns,” she said. “Maybe that’s where I’m similar to Rachel, in that I’m harder on myself than anyone else might be.”
Markle’s also said her Rachel’s love of food came from her as well as all the jewelry she wore on Suits.
