There have been countless reports over the last several months about a reconciliation between the royal family and the Sussexes. That chatter intensified when the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) revealed her cancer diagnosis and that she was undergoing preventive chemotherapy.

However, there have been no signs that Prince Harry and Prince William‘s icy relationship has thawed at all. In fact, many insiders said that the two aren’t even on speaking terms, and a “possible reconciliation” is just a talking point for the media. According to an expert, royal watchers shouldn’t hold their breath waiting for the brothers to reconcile because it’s not going to happen, and the Duke of Sussex’s wife is one of the reasons why.

Royal expert calls Meghan ‘one of the driving forces’ in William and Harry’s feud

Longtime royal correspondent Charles Rae appeared on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show and explained why he doesn’t think the Waleses will ever forgive the Sussexes for all the “pain” they caused.

“There’s too much water which has gone under that bridge,” Rae said. “After everything Harry and Meghan have done with the Oprah Winfrey interview, that Netflix show … [Harry’s book] Spare. The flamboyant curtsy by Meghan on the show as well. There’s too much gone under the bridge now. If [Meghan and Harry] are going to make the move, I am not so sure William and Catherine would respond favorably.”

The expert continued: “William’s got a lot more on his mind right now than repairing the troubles with his own brother. He’s got his wife to look after and his three children. They are the most important things that are going on. If Harry was that keen on making some sort of move towards William … he didn’t wish him a happy 42nd birthday. Any rift in any family is very, very sad. They’re doing it in the full glare of publicity and that’s obviously ten times worse than you falling out with your brother or sister. But Harry’s caused an awful lot of pain to various members of the royal family, his father, his brother, his sister-in-law.

“I don’t think it’s ever going to happen and I suspect one of the driving forces in not making it happen is Meghan herself. I’m not trying to blame her for everything. I don’t blame her for everything but I don’t think things she is doing help matters.”

Princess Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell, who worked for the late royal from 1987 until her death in 1997, gave his take on the brothers’ feud and placed the blame squarely on Meghan.

Speaking on behalf of Slingo, Burrell opined that the Duchess of Sussex “changed [Harry’s] world and turned it upside down … He has not only deserted his post, he has deserted his family and his country.”

He added that if the princess was still here today, things wouldn’t have turned out the way they have and Diana would have made sure of that.

“If [Diana] was still alive, none of this would be happening because she would still have her hands on the reins and she would still be steering her children,” Burrell claimed. “She would be proud of William but she would have a broken heart over Harry because she would be torn over the love for her son and the desertion of his duty.”
