Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Have a ‘Perfectly Understandable’ Reason to Not Spend Christmas With the Royal Family, Royal Commentator Says

Although Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Christmas plans haven't officially been confirmed, a royal commentator says their daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, is an 'understandable reason' not to go to England.

Will they or won’t they? It’s the question on everyone’s minds when it comes to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle? Will the Duke and Duchess of Sussex spend Christmas with Queen Elizabeth II and the rest of the British royal family? There are conflicting reports as the couple hasn’t publicly confirmed their holiday plans. However, if they decide to stay at home in Montecito, Calif., a royal commentator says they’d have a “perfectly good” reason to do so.

Queen Elizabeth II entered the hospital in mid-October 2021. The purpose of her overnight stay was, according to royal reporter Omid Scobie, so she could undergo “preliminary investigations.”

After checking out of the hospital and returning to Windsor Castle Queen Elizabeth began following the advice of her doctors, who told her to rest. The 95-year-old canceled a number of official engagements.

Queen Elizabeth’s hospitalization supposedly had Harry feeling helpless being thousands of miles away. He went into “panic mode” and reportedly made the decision to spend Christmas in England

Now, a month later, Queen Elizabeth continues to make rest a priority, missing out on a number of major activities including the royal family’s annual Remembrance Day events. However, it’s still unclear whether or not Harry and Meghan will travel across the pond with their kids — Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor and Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor — in tow.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex may opt to spend Christmas at home because of their daughter, according to royal commentator Matthew Wright. Per Express, Wright said on the U.K.’s This Morning they may skip it because traveling with an infant isn’t easy.

“There’s so much speculation. They’re coming over, they’re not coming over. They’re coming over to show the child, they don’t want to show the child,” Wright said, referring to the fact that Lili, who Meghan gave birth to in June 2021, hasn’t met Queen Elizabeth in person.

He continued, saying the fact that she’s so young may be the reason why Meghan and Harry stay home. “Lilibet is five, six months old, I think it’s perfectly understandable they wouldn’t necessarily want to cross half the planet for Christmas,” Wright explained.

During her first talk show appearance as the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan went on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. She spoke with her neighbor and friend, host Ellen DeGeneres.

Meghan talked about her old Ford Explorer Sport, early auditions on the Warner Bros. lot, and, at one point, Thanksgiving. The 40-year-old told DeGeneres it will be a day spent at home where she does the cooking. “We’ll be home and just sort of relax and settle in,” she said.

Thanksgiving is an American tradition so it may not be indicative of how Meghan and Harry will spend Christmas. For now, royal watchers will have to wait and see how they spend the holiday as Dec. 25 gets closer.
