Meghan Markle recently revealed her Thanksgiving plans for this year during an appearance on Ellen. The former Suits actress shared that she loves to cook, and she’s looking forward to relaxing and settling in with Prince Harry, Archie Harrison, and Lilibet at their home in California.

Long before she was a member of the royal family, Meghan had a lifestyle blog called The Tig. One year before she met Prince Harry, Meghan promised her blog and Instagram followers that her favorite, healthy Thanksgiving recipes would make them feel like “the Queen.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are celebrating their second Thanksgiving together in California

Meghan and Harry officially stepped down as senior working royals in March 2020 after they made their famous Megxit announcement in January of that year. The couple moved from the UK to America with their son Archie when they purchased a multi-million dollar home in the exclusive Montecito, California, neighborhood.

The Duchess told Ellen that this will be their second Thanksgiving at home in California, so “it will be nice.” She also revealed that they attempted to celebrate Halloween with 2-year-old Archie and 5-month-old Lilibet. But, it didn’t really work out as planned.

“We wanted to do something fun for the kids, but the kids were just not into it at all. Archie was a dinosaur for maybe five minutes…” Meghan said.

The Duchess of Sussex is a big fan of Thanksgiving

Before she married Prince Harry, Meghan had a lifestyle blog called The Tig, where she would dish out travel, beauty, and fashion advice. She would also show off her culinary skills by posting photos and sharing recipes of her favorite dishes.

In 2016 — when she was secretly dating Harry — Meghan posted a pic of a perfectly prepared turkey.

“Oh, that time I roasted a pretty perfect Thanksgiving turkey!” she captioned the photo. “The question is, can I do it again? The pressure is on!”

In a 2014 Thanksgiving post, Meghan shared her menu that didn’t include a traditional turkey. Instead, she featured a recipe for oven-roasted chicken breast with mushroom leek gravy from the Clean Team — nutritionists Dr. Junger and Dhru Purohit.

“I love a brined, stuffed and roasted turkey as much as anyone, but if you’re cooking for two, maybe a smaller bird is more up your alley – and coupled with a beautiful side and a delicious dessert, you will be The King or Queen of happy bellies and full hearts,” Meghan wrote.

A ‘beautiful roast chicken’ recipe

Meghan praised the “beautiful roast chicken,” saying it was “some gobble gobble good cooking.” She also pointed out that all of her recipes were “Clean Eats,” which meant no carb coma aftermath.

The “beautiful side dish” and “delicious dessert” recipes that Meghan shared were roasted acorn squash wedge salad and almond butter bites dipped in chocolate.

For fans interested in seeing Meghan’s recipes, Tumblr account Tig Archives managed to save a few posts before she closed her blog. Including the 2014 Thanksgiving posts with all three recipes.

Prince Harry proposed to Meghan Markle over a chicken dinner

There’s another reason why Meghan is a big fan of roast chicken. During their first interview together while announcing their engagement, Meghan revealed that Harry proposed while they were trying to roast a chicken together during a “cozy night in” back in 2017.

“[We were] trying to roast a chicken and it just – just an amazing surprise, it was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got on one knee,” Meghan said.
