It’s no secret that being in the British royal family was extremely challenging for Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. The duchess was a well-liked actress in North America, with a starring role on the USA drama series, Suits. She also had a history of activism. However, the British press and public never warmed to her.

When the duchess married Prince Harry in May 2018, both were optimistic by what they would be able o accomplish. Unfortunately, their engagement and early months of marriage were married by Meghan’s paternal family doing interviews and spewing lies about her.

In addition, the tabloids did everything in their power to dig up information on the duchess’ dating life, asking her close friends for information about her and making up things altogether. Now, one of the Duchess of Sussex‘s former co-stars is coming forward to reveal that a British tabloid offered him a great deal of money to lie about her.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were attacked on a daily basis

Though Megxit came as a shock to many, it was a choice that the Sussexes made after nearly two years of constant harassment, lies, and attacks. Since most of this was aimed at Meghan, the only royal to come to her defense was Prince Harry.

“To say they were crushed is an understatement,” Omid Scobie, Bazaar.com’s royal editor. “It’s a decision that the couple still feel wasn’t necessary, but also wasn’t a surprise, given the lack of support they received as they were relentlessly attacked by sections of the British press with almost daily mistruths and hateful commentary. They knew something had to change, but they also didn’t want to stop supporting the queen. One can’t help but wonder if things might have been different if a family member or two had stood up for them during the darkest times.”

The British press and public will never accept Meghan Markle

Though they refuse to acknowledge their racism, blaming their disdain for Megan on everything from her former career to her American way of life, the truth is that the duchess’ mixed-raced heritage would always make her an outsider prone to attacks.

“It’s hard,” Meghan said during her ITV documentary Harry and Meghan: An African Journey. “I don’t think anybody could understand that, but in all fairness, I had no idea—which probably sounds difficult to understand here—but when I first met my now-husband, my friends were really happy because I was so happy, but my British friends said to me, ‘I’m sure he’s great, but you shouldn’t do it, because the British tabloids will destroy your life.’ And I very naively…we’re American, we don’t have that there, ‘What are you talking about? That doesn’t make any sense. I’m not in tabloids!’ I didn’t get it. So yeah, it’s been complicated.

Meghan Markle’s co-star Simon Rex was offered $70,000 to lie about their relationship

We saw how easily tabloids handed Meghan’s family money to talk about her. Apparently, this went much deeper than we once thought. Simon Rex, one of Meghan’s former co-stars just revealed that he was offered $70,000 to lie and say they’d dated.

“Nothing happened,” Simon explained on the Hollywood Raw podcast. “We never even kissed. It was just like, we hung out once in a very non-datey way, She was just someone I had met on a TV show and, like, we got lunch. That was the extent of it. The tabloids, actually, when that story broke, a couple British tabloids offered to pay me a lot of money to say a lie that we actually hooked up. And dude. I said no to a lot of money because I didn’t feel right lying and f*cking up the royal f*cking family. It was a lot of money, man. I think they offered me, like, $70,000.”

Megxit seems like the best move the Sussexes could have made.
