It seems like with each day comes a new report that Prince Harry could be reconciling with his family. However, royal courtiers continue to insist that Queen Camilla, who Harry labeled as a “villain” in Spare, doesn’t want the duke anywhere near King Charles now as he continues his treatment. And Harry’s brother, Prince William, and sister-in-law, the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton), won’t even speak to him. In fact, when Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis to the world, the Sussexes found out the same way the rest of the public did: via her video message.

But still, there is hope that one day the family could come together and be able to reach a reconciliation. And when that day comes Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, wants to make sure she has a seat at the table.

Meghan makes it clear she needs to be part of anything Harry wants to do with his family

A royal source has claimed that Meghan has been bracing for peace talks behind the scenes between Harry and his family. And while she’s “incredibly nervous” about facing the royals again, she doesn’t want to be left out when those talks do happen.

The insider told Closer: “The wounds Meghan suffered from her experiences in the royal family cut very deep. Since all the drama over her and Harry’s split from The Firm, she’s been incredibly nervous about facing them again. But she now accepts it’s got to be done.”

They added: “Meghan’s stance is that if Harry is going to go back and make a deal with the royals, she needs to be part of it as well. She wants to show them they can’t just trample all over her and then have Harry come back on his own, as though she can be tossed aside.”

What’s stopping Meghan from returning to the U.K. now?

But even if Meghan feels that a return to England at some point is inevitable she isn’t rushing to hop on a plane with their two kids anytime soon to head there. Part of that has to do with how Harry has repeatedly talked about fearing for his family’s safety as he and Meghan are no longer entitled to police protection while in the U.K.

Harry has fought this matter in court but in February 2024, lost a bid to have taxpayer-funded security protection again. As The Telegraph noted, “The duke recently lost a legal battle with the Home Office over the withdrawal of his state-funded police protection. He has announced plans to appeal but in the meantime, he cannot rely on such a level of security.”

The duke and duchess do however at least have a European base set up now following their eviction from Frogmore Cottage. The couple reportedly purchased a home in a resort town in Portugal not far from where Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie, and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, reside six months out of the year.
