Meghan Markle’s Lifestyle Blog ‘The Tig’ Was More Than Just a Nickname for Wine
Years have passed since Meghan, Duchess of Sussex shuttered her popular lifestyle blog, The Tig. Prior to getting engaged to Prince Harry in 2017, the Duchess of Sussex had her own unique career, hobbies, and aspirations. The Los Angeles native starred on the hit USA drama, Suits. She also did a ton of philanthropy work, was politically outspoken, and she ran The Tig.
The website was a wonderful place for the duchess to connect with women across the world over a slew of topics including, food and her favorite recipes, her philosophies on things like Valentine’s Day, her personal experiences, and the subjects that mattered to her most.
The Tig has been shut down for nearly three years, but there are whispers that the duchess is looking to relaunch it now that she is no longer a senior working royal. Though we’re not sure how true that is yet, we do know that The Tig has a much deeper meaning than a nickname for wine.
Inside Meghan Markle’s ‘The Tig’
The duchess first launched The Tig in May 2014. By then she was already fairly well-known because of Suits. People immediately gravitated towards Meghan’s “inspired lifestyle” site because it was uber relatable. She spoke openly about being a single girl on Valentine’s Day and her excessive use of the f-word.
Though there are several celeb lifestyle sites like Poosh and Goop, The Tig felt very much like a place for an everyday woman. The duchess also reached out to her network of friends including, Priyanka Chopra and Serena Williams to chat with them about their own experiences.
Unfortunately, when things began getting serious with Prince Harry in 2017, the Duchess of Sussex chose to close the site.
‘The Tig’ would look very different if Meghan Markle relaunched it today
Now that Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex have stepped away from the British royal family amid Megxit, they are hoping to focus on their own ventures while becoming financially independent. We know that the pair are set to launch their new LA-based venture, Archewell once the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic passes.
However, there are also whispers that the duchess is looking into relaunching The Tig. The Sussexes have a new powerhouse Hollywood team and their business manager Andrew Meyer recently renewed the trademark for The Tig. When this news went public a spokesperson for the duke and duchess released a statement saying, “The lasting trademark is to prevent false branding, to avoid others purporting to be the Duchess or affiliated with her.”
However, we do know how passionate Meghan was about The Tig. In her farewell address on the site, she said, “What began as a passion project (my little engine that could) evolved into an amazing community of inspiration, support, fun, and frivolity. You’ve made my days brighter and filled this experience with so much joy.”
We can certainly see The Tig fitting in with the duchess’ vision for Archewell.
The true meaning behind Meghan Markle’s ‘The Tig’
Most people know that The Tig is the nickname for Tignanello wine, the first contemporary red wine blended. However, for the duchess, The Tig was much more than wine lingo. For the duchess, it’s also name for her “ah-ha” moments.
“It wasn’t just red or white–suddenly I understood what people meant by the body, legs, structure of wine. It was an ah-ha moment at its finest,” she explained. “For me, it became a ‘Tig’ moment–a moment of getting it. From that point on, any new awareness, any new discovery or ‘ohhhhh, I get it!’ moment was a ‘Tig’ moment.”
