When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared their love story with the world in a joint interview following their engagement, Harry revealed that the two went on a private trip together to Botswana for their third date. The African nation has always held a special place in the duke’s heart as he went there shortly after his mother Princess Diana’s death.

The prince and former Suits star also shared that Meghan’s engagement ring has three diamonds — the side gems are from Princess Diana’s personal collection and the cushion-cut center diamond was actually sourced from Botswana.

But Meghan wasn’t the first woman Harry had a getaway in the country with and one family member reminded him of that.

Prince Harry wined and dined Meghan with trip to Botswana

In their engagement interview, Harry opened up about their trip together. The duke said Botswana was the “perfect place” for the then-new couple to really get to know one another and recalled: “I managed to persuade her to come and join me in Botswana and we camped out with each other under the stars. Then we were really by ourselves, which was crucial to me to make sure that we had a chance to get to know each other.”

In their Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, the duchess explained: “That summer I was going to be on hiatus from work but I had travel plans. And a cast mate of mine had said, ‘Make sure you leave room for magic.’ And as we were talking about, ‘When are we gonna see each other next?’ He said, ‘I have to go to Africa to do some conservation work. I have one week off.’ I said, ‘I have one week off.’ It was the same week. So he said, ‘Do you want to come to Botswana?'”

Harry was “astonished” that Meghan agreed to go saying: “This woman that I’ve only met twice, she’s coming to Botswana and we’re going to be living in a tent for five days.”

According to Express, the pair stayed in a tent that goes for £1,500 [$1,900) per night and has an en-suite bathroom and private bedroom.

Harry also took other women on dates to the same African country

But as enchanting as the story about the prince taking his beautiful girlfriend away on a romantic trip is, it isn’t the first time Harry took a lover to Botswana.

Royal author Tina Brown revealed that Prince William pointed out to the Duke of Sussex that Meghan was not the first, not the second, not the third, but the fourth woman Harry whisked away to the African nation.

Brown, a former confidant of Princess Diana, noted in her book The Palace Papers that William hastily mocked his younger sibling when he reminded Harry that Meghan wasn’t the only woman he took on a trip to the country close to his heart.

Brown wrote that William said to Harry: “You do realize this is the fourth girl you’ve taken to Botswana?”

In addition to Meghan, Harry also took TV sports reporter Natalie Pinkham on a romantic getaway to the African country as well as his Zimbabwean-born ex-girlfriend Chelsy Davy and another former girlfriend Cressida Bonas.
