Meghan Markle appeared wistful as she reflected on her first Christmas as a member of the royal family. She joyfully recalled the celebratory season with members of the House of Windsor and called the royals “the big family I always wanted.”

Meghan Markle enjoyed her first royal family Christmas

Meghan Markle reflected on her first royal family Christmas in the Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan. She admitted she was very happy to partake in all the activities at Sandringham in 2017.

She said to the cameras, “I remember so vividly the first Christmas at Sandringham,” she said. “Calling my mom, and she’s like, ‘How’s it going?’ And I said, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s amazing.’”

“It’s just like a big family like I always wanted,” Meghan explained. “And there was just this constant movement and energy and fun.”

She also discussed how she spoke to Prince Philip during dinner. “And I just thought it was so wonderful. And I was like, ‘Oh, we chatted, and it was so great. I talked about this and talked about that.'”

Prince Harry later told Meghan that she was sitting on the side of his grandfather’s “bad ear.” So he likely didn’t hear everything she was saying.

How many Christmases did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spend with the royal family as a couple?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spent two Christmases with the royal family. One was before their marriage in 2017. The second was in 2018, the year they married.

The following year, the couple spent Christmas with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland. While it is not required for the royals to spend the entire holiday together, most family members make an appearance on either Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, or both.

Per Town & Country, a spokesperson for the couple said, “This decision is in line with the precedent set previously by other members of the royal family, and has the support of Her Majesty the Queen.” The spokesperson likely referred to Kate Middleton and Prince William, who had also skipped some royal Christmas celebrations to enjoy the holiday with her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton.

A Harry and Meghan Christmas Visit Would Ruin the Holiday for the Royal Family

At this point, it appears unlikely Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be spending the holidays with King Charles and other members of the royal family. A royal expert explains that too many bridges have been burned between the couple and the House of Windsor.

Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine told Fox News Digital any invitations to celebrate Christmas with the royal family wouldn’t happen soon. She said she’s “not a bit surprised” Harry and Meghan weren’t on the royal invite list.

“No, I’m not a bit surprised they weren’t invited,” Seward explained. “I think the general feeling is that it would’ve just created an unwarranted atmosphere, and Christmas isn’t about that.”

“Christmas is about everybody being happy and getting on with each other. And I just think that King Charles just couldn’t deal with the [drama].”

Seaward concluded, “He’s exhausted by his year. He’s exhausted by his cancer, and he’s a workaholic, so he doesn’t really rest up.”

“And the thought of having Harry and Meghan was probably a bit much. He thought it would be a bit much over this period.”

The royal family typically spends Christmas Eve and Day at Sandringham Estate. Queen Elizabeth typically stayed at the estate from December until February of the following year.
