Meghan Markle turned 40 in August 2021. She marked the special day by giving back and sharing the details in a playful video. Like most of her public appearances, whether in-person or remote, body language experts examined her every move. From the comfort of her California home, Meghan appeared calm, confident, and self-assured, according to a body language expert.

When she turned 40 on Aug. 4, 2021, the Duchess of Sussex marked the occasion by announcing a mentorship program geared toward women re-entering the workforce. She took to Archewell, the official site of her and Harry’s foundation, to share her motivation behind it.

“With my 40th lap around the sun in mind, it made me wonder,” Meghan began. “What would happen if we all committed 40 minutes to helping someone else or to mentoring someone in need? And then what would happen if we asked our friends to do the same?”

She continued, saying she’d asked 40 people to jumpstart a global effort by “contributing 40 minutes of mentorship to support women re-entering the workforce.”

Among them were Katie Couric, Adele, Priyanka Chopra, Kerry Washington, Amanda Gorman, Gabrielle Union, Ayesha Curry, Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie, and more.

The 40×40 video showed a calm and confident Meghan

While the royal family didn’t acknowledge Meghan’s birthday publicly the Duchess of Sussex appeared relaxed in a video with Melissa McCarthy. The two appeared in a short clip from their respective offices where they talked about ways Meghan could celebrate her birthday.

McCarthy and Meghan drank tea and joked before sharing details on 40×40. As body language expert Judi James told Mirror in August 2021, the Duchess of Sussex seemed “super-chilled.”

“With her laptop propped onto a mound of matching mags and her dog snoozing on a cushion behind her, Meghan’s super-chilled body language here suggests a woman infused with inner confidence and well-being,” James said.

“Looking up into the camera she joins in the playful smiles as Melissa ribs her about her chickens; her official photos in the garden, her royal role, and her acting role in Suits,” she continued.

“This is probably the nearest thing Meghan will come to having a celebrity roast but it does allow her to be seen showing her more self-effacing side,” James added. Meghan’s “smiling at Melissa’s jokes and even gingerly joining in” which “suggests an inner calm and very solid sense of self-esteem.”

Meghan’s body language did a ‘switch’ to serious

In the video that also featured an appearance by Harry, Meghan wasn’t all jokes and smiles. As James pointed out the Duchess of Sussex’s body language would transition to “serious” when discussing the mentorship program.

“There is, of course, a switch to more serious body language signals as Meghan mentions her campaign,” she said. “Her hands form a forward ‘pray’ gesture as she talks about linking it to her birthday and she uses a raised finger to suggest a more serious theme despite the comedy music.”

So while the public got a glimpse of Meghan’s home office they also saw a confident and relaxed royal as evidenced by Meghan’s body language.
