Meghan Markle’s Children’s Book Could Contain a ‘Coded Message’ to the Royal Family, Expert Believes
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex is now on her way to becoming a children’s book author. She will be releasing a book called The Bench for families to enjoy.
While the book seems like an uncontroversial project on the surface, one royal expert believes it could also contain a “coded message” directed at the royal family.
What is Meghan Markle’s children’s book about?
The Bench is a picture book illustrated by Caldecott-winning artist Christian Robinson. It is about the bond between fathers and sons.
Meghan shared that the book was was inspired by a poem she wrote about Prince Harry and their son, Archie.
“The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father’s Day, the month after Archie was born,” she said in a statement, according to Harper’s Bazaar.
The duchess added, “That poem became this story. Christian layered in beautiful and ethereal watercolor illustrations that capture the warmth, joy, and comfort of the relationship between fathers and sons from all walks of life; this representation was particularly important to me, and Christian and I worked closely to depict this special bond through an inclusive lens.”
The Bench will be released by Penguin Random House on June 8, 2021. The date comes almost two weeks before Father’s Day.
A royal expert wonders if the book has a ‘coded message’ to the royal family
A few pages from The Bench have been shared with the public. One picture shows a father wearing a military uniform while playing with his son, which royal author Ingrid Seward believes could be a reference to Harry’s background in the army.
“In the illustrations for Meghan’s book, the ginger-haired dad is dressed in Army fatigues – something Archie has never seen before,” Seward wrote for The Sun. “Maybe Meghan is sending us a coded message that Harry has still not got over losing his military titles after the Queen stepped in.”
Harry served for almost 10 years in the British military. After he and Meghan stepped down as senior royals in 2020, he was stripped of some of his military titles. According to the biography Finding Freedom by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand (which had some contributions from Meghan), Harry found losing his military titles to be the hardest part of stepping down.
Meghan Markle also reportedly wants to release a book for adults
Even though The Bench has not been released yet, a source has shared that Meghan is looking forward to possibly writing a book for adults as well.
“Meghan loves writing and she’s very good at it,” the insider said, according to Vanity Fair. “She wanted to have a go at writing a children’s book first and depending on the success of this, there will be more. She is also keen to write books for adults too.”
Before becoming a royal, Meghan was an actor who wrote many blog posts for her lifestyle brand, The Tig.
