Meghan Markle’s Father Reveals Meghan and Harry’s 1 Decision That ‘Never Made Sense’ — and He Has ‘So Many Questions’
Meghan Markle and her father, Thomas Markle, have had a strained relationship ever since the Duchess of Sussex became engaged to Prince Harry. Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding was slightly overshadowed by the drama surrounding Meghan and her father, and Meghan even won a privacy lawsuit after pieces of a letter she wrote to her dad were published by a British tabloid.
Thomas has spoken out a number of times since then, and he recently said there is one decision the couple made that “never made sense” to him.
Thomas Markle said Prince Harry never made an effort to meet him
It’s no secret that Meghan and Harry don’t have a great relationship with Meghan’s father, Thomas. Thomas was caught staging paparazzi photos before Harry and Meghan’s 2018 wedding, and his daughter’s connection to the prince went right to his head. Now, though, Thomas is speaking out about one decision the couple made (specifically, a decision that Harry made) that he never understood: Harry never tried to meet him.
“When I reflect back on my life, as you do when you are approaching 80, that’s one of the questions I cannot find an answer for: Why didn’t Harry ever come to meet me?” Thomas said to Daily Mail. “He has the resources to fly around the world — and does — but why didn’t he come to see me … That has never made sense to me.”
Thomas also added that he feels “empathy” for the king, who is in a similar situation; neither of them ever see Prince Archie or Princess Lilibet. “I would love to speak to him because I am sure he has as many unanswered questions as I do … I have so many questions I’d like to ask Meghan and Harry.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle only speak to a handful of family members
Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, has always remained a constant in Harry and Meghan’s life. Doria spends plenty of time with the grandkids, and Harry and Meghan keep her close. The two also still reportedly have a relationship with Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, as well as several members of Princess Diana’s family. However, for the most part, they do not speak to any family members on either side.
Harry has voiced his desire to bring his children to the United Kingdom but has cited security issues as the reason he leaves his family in the UK whenever he visits. It’s hard to say if there will ever come a time where Harry and Meghan reconnect with family members, but based on the current state of relationships, it seems unlikely.
