There is a lot of beloved food that is eaten around Christmas time. However, of course, every family has its own take on what should be traditionally consumed during a Christmas meal.

For the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, there is a special cocktail that she loves making for the holiday. It’s not clear whether she will be drinking it with Prince Harry this year, but if you are looking for ways to celebrate Christmas like Duchess Meghan, read on below to learn about her favorite cocktail recipes and more holiday tips.

Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry have spent the past two Christmases at Sandringham House with the royal family. This year, the couple and their young son will be hanging out with Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, instead.

It has been said that, after a stressful year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would rather not spend time at a Christmas gathering that is known to be extremely regimented. While people consider this move a huge “snub” to the royal family, an official statement released by the palace assured fans that it “is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen.”

Meghan Markle’s favorite Christmas cocktail recipe

Since Duchess Meghan is now allowed to celebrate Christmas in a more relaxed fashion, there is a chance that she could make her special cocktail recipe. In 2015, before Markle was a royal, the now-duchess shared with Grazia a drink that she enjoys drinking on Christmas.

Markle called it the “Almond Milk Spiced Holiday Cocktail.” It involves several ingredients, including almond milk, dates, and Bourbon.

The complete list of ingredients, along with proportions, include:

  • 4 cups unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tsp of cinnamon + 1 tsp cardamom + 1 tsp of powdered ginger
  • 1/2 tsp of clove
  • 6-8 dried dates soaked in water
  • Bourbon
  • Cinnamon sticks for garnish

The instructions are fairly simple and straight-forward as well. As Markle described it:

“Blend all ingredients (except the alcohol) in a powerful blender and then move to a small saucepan. Heat at a low temperature until heated and then add 4 -6 oz into the pot depending on your friends’ palates. Pour each drink and garnish with a cinnamon stick. If you prefer this drink cold, then omit the heating and shake it hard in a cocktail shaker and serve in champagne glasses with a cinnamon/sugar rim on the glass.”

Other ways Meghan Markle likes to celebrate Christmas

It seems that Markle really enjoyed hosting parties for her friends and family. In the Grazia report, she shared several ways in which she usually puts a twist on Christmas gatherings.

For instance, Markle decorates her home with garland and magnolia branches, but she also uses them to adorn things like mirrors and paintings.

Markle also gives her parties a more “elegant” feel by buying silver serving trays, platters, and nut bowls from Etsy or flea markets. They do not break the bank but still look fancier than they actually are.

Another thing she does is go all-white wherever she can, such as with tablecloths and napkins. Finally, Markle decorates her tables with flowers in mint julep cups and Moscow mule mugs, as opposed to traditional flower vases.

Additionally, it wouldn’t be a Markle-style party without sustainability in mind. In one blog post from her now-defunct blog, The Tig, Markle gave some tips on how to save money, time, and the planet during the holiday season. She encouraged readers to shop at farmers markets, reduce trips to the grocery store, and support local businesses and restaurants.
