Meghan Markle’s Favorite Kitchen Tools
Before Meghan Markle was a duchess, she was an actress with a passionate love for food and travel. Her old blog, The Tig, is no longer active, of course, but it used to detail her favorite recipes, food and drink experiences, and travel stories.
As a new mother and very busy duchess, Meghan Markle probably isn’t cooking as much as she used to these days, but to assume she’s not cooking at all probably wouldn’t be a very good bet. She loves to create in the kitchen–she always has. It’s something she can carry over from her “old life” to feel like herself and remind her of her roots.
When the royal staff isn’t cooking for her, Meghan Markle has two favorite kitchen tools that she simply can’t live without.
She did a food-centered interview back in November 2017 with Eyeswoon, and the then-actress and food blogger was asked what she’d be “lost in the kitchen without.”
Meghan Markle would be lost without her Shun Knife
One of Meghan Markle’s favorite kitchen tools is her Shun Hikari Chef’s Knife. Named after the Japanese word for “illumination,” the duchess’s favorite knife is “extraordinarily sharp with a long-lasting edge” and has a blade that contains “micro serrations [that] reduce friction for clean, effortless slices that enhance the flavor of the food.”
A true chef’s knife, it was named 2016’s Kitchen Knife of the Year. Other features include: dual-core stainless steel blades with 71 microlayers of high-carbon, high-chromium stainless steel to create a “hornet’s nest” pattern reminiscent of a Damascus-style blade, exceedingly sharp cutting edges, hand-sharpened to a 16-degree angle, durable birch PakkaWood handle resists moisture and bacteria, a beautiful low-gloss finish, and a broad blade that’s useful for transferring chopped items to a pot.
Being a frequent chef herself, it’s no wonder Meghan Markle’s Shun Knife is a favorite tool of hers.
Meghan Markle loves her Vitamix
But Meghan Markle’s most beloved kitchen tool has got to be her Vitamix. The machine is described as a “use-mine-every-day, can’t-live-without-it, commercial-standard blender.”
Back in the day, Meghan Markle was said to take her Vitamix with her everywhere she went.
When the former actress relocated to Toronto while filming Suits, she was sure to bring her favorite kitchen tool with her.
“She packed it into the back seat of her car even though it would have been just as easy to buy a new one,” wrote Andrew Morton in his book, Meghan: A Hollywood Princess. “It sat on the kitchen counter in the Toronto house, a material reminder that her home was no longer in Los Angeles.”
In addition to toppings, smoothies, and healthy juices, Meghan Markle also used to make “vegetable soup in her beloved Vitamix,” according to Meghan: A Hollywood Princess.
Another purpose the mighty little blender serves? Keeping the former actress away from caffeine.
She told Today: “If I blend some apple, kale, spinach, lemon, and ginger in my Vitamix in the morning and bring it to work, I always find that sipping on that is a much better boost than a cup of espresso.”
If she carted her Vitamix all the way to Toronto with her, Meghan Markle probably brought her favorite gadget to London, too.
