Melissa Joan Hart is an iconic actor who has been a pop-culture staple for more than two decades. Her work in the hit sitcom Sabrina the Teenage Witch cemented her place in history, and even though she went on to act in many shows after the series ended, her fans still know her best for her work in the beloved show. In a recent cast interview, Hart opened up about the show, admitting that although she didn’t watch Sabrina the Teenage Witch during its original run, she has since used episodes of the show to help teach her sons valuable life lessons.

What did Melissa Joan Hart say about showing her son an episode of ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’?

The cast of Sabrina the Teenage Witch recently reconnected for ’90s CON, a celebration of all things ’90s. The group sat down for an intimate interview with Entertainment Tonight, where they discussed the show that changed their lives. For Hart, who played Sabrina, the show is an opportunity to teach her son a thing or two. “I made them watch our pancake episode because I was trying to explain sugar addiction to our little one,” Hart noted. “That was my favorite (episode) because it was the first time I got to play physical comedy.”

The episode Hart referred to, “Pancake Madness,” details what happens when Sabrina starts eating pancakes in spite of her aunts’ warning that anyone in their family who eats pancakes becomes addicted to them. According to IMDb, Zelda helps Sabrina work through the addiction, with hilarious consequences.

Hart has talked extensively about her home life with her three young sons. Hart married Mark Wilkerson in 2003, at the peak of her Sabrina the Teenage Witch fame. The two went on to welcome three boys: Mason, born in 2006, Braydon, born in 2008, and Tucker, born in 2012.

According to People, Hart and her husband prioritize outside time with their boys, with Hart admitting “There isn’t really one thing they value more than going outside to play with neighborhood kids. They don’t really like electronics, and they are just as happy reading as playing with toys.”

Healthy eating is also important to the performer, and as she told People, she is proud of the fact that none of her boys have an affinity for sugary soft drinks like soda.

Even though Hart now watches episodes of Sabrina the Teenage Witch in order to teach her sons important life lessons, back in the day, she never actually sat down to enjoy the series. Early on in the interview with Entertainment Tonight, the cast talked about how they never got the chance to watch Sabrina the Teenage Witch when they were actively involved in filming.

“People are shocked when we say we’ve never seen it,” Hart noted. “And I’m like, the thing is, ‘Friday nights we worked till 2 AM a lot of the time.’ They would hand us a VHS on Friday morning and say ‘here’s tonight’s episode.’ Do you think I’m going to go home Saturday morning and pop it in the thing and watch the show when I have to go back Monday?… So I’ve never watched it.”

These days, fans love Hart as much as they did when Sabrina the Teenage Witch first aired – and that affection is showing no signs of diminishing.
