Melissa McCarthy and ‘Barefoot Contessa’ Ina Garten Team Up for Discovery+ Show ‘Cocktails and Tall Tales’
It’s the dream team you never knew you needed in your life: “Barefoot Contessa” Ina Garten and Melissa Mcarthy are coming together for a Discovery+ special called Cocktails and Tall Tales with Ina Garten and Melissa McCarthy. The two will meet up virtually for a double date with their husbands.

It’s a dream come true for McCarthy, who took to Instagram to share the upcoming special, set to air on Discovery+ on March 26.
McCarthy explained on social media: “WWIGD is a sentence that runs through my head at least a hundred times a day and now I finally get to sit down and ask Ina herself, what would @inagarten do?! It still feels like a fever dream so leave any questions for Ina below and I’ll make sure to ask her when we chat (wow I love that sentence).”
In the video McCarthy posted, she explained why she wanted help from her fans. “I’m so excited and nervous that I’m planning out questions but I don’t want to seem like I’m planning out questions … what would you ask her?,” she asked. “I need a little help.”
Garten shared the news on her Instagram as well, asking fans for some assistance. “So excited to be having Zoom cocktails with @melissamccarthy! Does anyone have a question they’d like me to ask her about acting/food/life? I’ll let you know when our conversation will stream on @discoveryplus Stay tuned! #fun,” she explained.
‘Cocktails and Tall Tales’
What will the two women gab about on Cocktails and Tall Tales? Since both are asking their followers for topics and questions to discuss, it’s likely that there will be plenty of fan questions in the mix.
Their husbands should make the discussion even more fun — McCarthy is married to Ben Falcone and Garten is married to Jeffrey Garten. It’s likely going to be the sweetest double date of all time.
A press release from Discovery, Inc. shared the two women “have long been fans of one another from afar” and that they will “invite fans to join them for cocktails and a unique one-on-one conversation.”
“Fans of Ina’s ‘Quarantini’ from last spring will be able to update their own drinking game, as the ladies explore a new cocktail concoction,” the press release promised.
“We have all been stuck home looking for new ways to make it through each day safely and when the opportunity to meet and maybe have a drink with Melissa was presented, I immediately cleared my schedule,” Garten is quoted as saying in the release. “Melissa is a brilliant comedic talent who I have long admired and I think she and her husband Ben would make an excellent double-date couple for Jeffrey and myself.”
Melissa added, “The fact that Ben and I are having a double-date via zoom, with our soon to be new best friends Ina and Jeffrey Garten seems like a wonderful fever dream. I mean, two of our daughter’s first words were Ina and ganache … Seriously.”
